and no it's not about the AI overhype, I'm referring to authentic people talking about utilizing LLMs and the various experiences with it, which tbh is useful, but it is getting boring

while I understand why, I'm missing all the content about actual software development and instead everyone is talking over AI-related topics

and that made me appreciate suspense more in client-side fetching e.g. React's use() and TSQ's useSuspenseQuery

one of the good things that RSC have is that it made state a lot simpler in components that have multiple API calls as it's eliminate the need for handling all possible states that may happen if something is still loading or if something has failed

and it also can rapidly produce good code if it already have enough samples from the existing codebase at least for the average app (crud)

Maintainable Systems with AI: Tactical Speed, Strategic Design
AI is here to stay, but AI-generated code, even from the latest models, still lacks good design practices and code cleanliness. Commonly known as "AI Slop": code that eventually reaches a breaking poi...

Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 11/01/2026
meaning to let AI develop "tactically" most parts of the system, and we "strategically" intervene where it matters for the long-term maintainability of the system.

Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 11/01/2026
Tactical vs Strategic programming was mentioned in "A Philosophy of Software Design" by John Ousterhout, but this was in the context of traditional, pre-AI software engineering. What if this idea can be also applied to programming with AI agents?

Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 07/01/2026
using ai agents make me wonder if some of the classic coding best practices will still matter anymore? though I personally can't think of any common best practice that ai-based coding won't benefit from (DRY, KISS,... also if we are going to see new best practices aimed to help ai write better code

my first thought was "creating a repro like the one in the example is such a chore!" then i remembered that i spent the last 2 days on a bug trying random theories that were just a waste of time.

right imagine how easy switching to bsky would be if twitter used atproto bsky might not have been needed to exist even! (just like the hosting providers example)
000
Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 28/09/2025
yes so there're already platforms like that, pretty cool!
110
Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 26/09/2025
good read! one question i have now how will atproto help exactly if you want to move from bsky yes the data is public, but how different is it from a data export? cause the data is incompatible with other social apps anyway, unless they chose to do so, isn't the data also "dead" here?

this has been posted around a lot, but god, can't stress this enough got frustrated by a web app that uses them for all numeric inputs and UX is just terrible (especially scrolling)

any specific one of those made a good replacement?

Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 29/08/2025
we got a little preview of that with AI-generated written content and it's already dystopian

you don't even have to read the code to know it's AI slop the clanker pr description is enough

ofc if you usually lift 100kg you won't lift 200kg by mistake
000
Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 26/08/2025
doing weightlifting you might mistakenly use weights higher than your usual ones and still be able to complete the set (even if with difficulty) cause you "believe" this is something you can do i wonder how many weights we are able to lift but we believe we can't

You’re right, this might not be the best path. But “thinking” and “waiting” won’t move you to the best path. Walking down this path, with open eyes, is how you find the best. (Anyway, “best” is an undefinable illusion!)

would it make sense to show ts errors if shallow: true & limitUrlUpdates properties were used together? I feel this might trip up some users if they didn't read the docs carefully.

🎉🎉 regarding debouncing, is there any point of using it in case of SPAs? (shallow: true) as the state updates immediately

recently i started to explore serverless, yes it's not a sliver bullet but for people doing side projects, or quick prototypes and can't (or don't want to) pay for it. Serverless platforms "Hobby" tier makes getting started very easy

That's why I started adding project rules (and not just user rules) that instructs the Al to never write comments unless specified.
000
Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 27/07/2025
and as a result, I started to develop Ad-blindness-like behavior, I unconsciously ignore comments now, which's actually harmful, because now I may skip over intentional, useful comments written by developers.
100
Islam Naasani @islamnaasani.com · 27/07/2025
Code comments by Al are useless, harmful, in fact. code comments by Al are always "How" and not "Why", and that's exact opposite of what good comments are, so they're useless

I've been using @hono.dev RPC recently, which uses fetch() API directly for the client, so you need to read the response using res.json() every time, and currently hono doesn't provide a way to customize that But you can use JavaScript Proxy for that:

good read! I've never thought of immutability before, and I think there's no solutions for that atm? except manually maintaining backward compatibility I'm more and more hoping for nuqs to become the de facto lib for url state management 🙌
