Part two of my Zephras Isle lore playthrough is out now! 💙 talked a bit about Skyborne families at the end of this one, was cool seeing how quite a lot of NPCs on Zephras Isle share the same surnames youtu.be/nOOOfBL6d80

I got curious how many Skyborne were blue vs not blue (esp considering the lore book that says 3/10 children born today are blue) so I went around cataloguing only named NPCs and it came out to 44 blue + 86 not blue, so blue shen'dorei make up roughly 33-34% of the population
Page 4 of "The Sky-Touched Mystery":

"Today, three in ten children born on the Skyborne Isles have the striking complexion of the Sky-Touched. In recent centuries, the acceleration of our physical alterations has increased, and many scholars believe that the last vestiges of our kaldorei heritage may vanish entirely within two to three more generations. The cause of this transformation may never be fully understood. Yet it is plain that, in making our lives within the elemental plane, we as a people are being changed by it in turn. Skywall is a realm of wonders, but this serves as a sober reminder that we still know perilously little of what such a place may work upon those not born to it."

obsessed with Highborne lore as I am you know I had to run to Shen'dralas and see what's up Mordent's got some dialogue, sorta wondering if this is Skyborne specific though given the familiarity with Eldre'Thalas
Mordent Evenshade's gossip dialogue in Shen'dralas. He says:

"Welcome to Shen'dralas, or what remains of it. I hope you can appreciate the majesty of this place, even if it is a haunted shell of its former self."

The player character has an option to ask him:

"Truly remarkable! I never had thought that I might see a part of Eldre'Thalas for myself."Mordent Evenshade's response to the player character saying they never thought they would see Eldre'Thalas:

"You speak of this place by name! That is a level of respect, or knowledge, that I would not expect these days. Of the few adventurers I have encountered, most refer to the city simply as 'Dire Maul'. While I find that name insulting and diminishing of my people's proud and extensive history, I cannot deny that Eldre'Thalas no longer lives up to its historical grandeur. At times I wonder if I do our city a disservice by preserving its namesake so long after it has fallen. I hope you can excuse the state the temple and its grounds are in. So much has changed over the past few millennia."

The player character has the option to respond:

"Given the events that unfolded here, I am pleasantly surprised that any part of the city still stands at all."In response to the player character saying they're surprised Eldre'Thalas is still standing, Mordent Evenshade responds:

"I'm inclined to agree, despite surviving the Great Sundering it seemed as though the city was nonetheless doomed from that catastrophic event. Its fall from greatness would ultimately come to reality, just not directly from the event that should have killed us all. That moment forever changed the destiny of my people. So many lives were lost... At times I try to understand the motivations of my Prince, but I admit that all these years later I struggle to do so. I try to avoid dwelling on the past, pondering decisions that can never be made or opportunities that may never have existed to begin with. The senseless loss of so much life is what haunts me the most."

The player character can respond:

"It is good to mourn those lost in the tragedy, but perhaps more importantly, you should celebrate the lives of those that survived."Mordent Evenshade says:

"Celebrating my own life as I stare toward a mass grave of so many of my kin feels... selfish. To this day I have yet to meet any other survivors, save for those of my order who remain cloistered in Prince Tortheldrin's inner sanctum, deep within the city. I still count myself among them, but these days it pains me greatly to walk those halls, and I spent much of my time away from the library I once called home."

Found a VERY cool lore book (crystal) that talks about why some of the Shen'dorei are blue and the significance of it
The title page of The Sky-Touched MysteryPage 2:

"Much of the flora and fauna of the Skyborne Isles has been shaped by the elemental forces that reign here in the realm of Skywall. Many creatures once bound to the earth now bear avian traits such as beaks, talons, and feathers. Others have gained the power of flight, though such transformations remain less common than other outward changes. Among the shen'dorei, the elemental plane's influence upon the body has been gradual and subtle. Yet in recent generations its effects have grown increasingly dramatic. Consider, for instance, the phenomenon now commonly called the 'Sky-Touched Blessing.'"Page 3:

"It's well documented since our ascent to Skywall that our people have adopted more lithe, slender forms, but this occurred over the course of many millennia. In contrast, the first recorded case of the Sky-Touched blessing -- which causes shen'dorei children to be born with vivid cerulean skin -- was noted fewer than five generations ago. Within a single generation of its first appearance, one child in twenty born among the Skyborne bore this curious alteration. Two generations later, that rate had doubled."Page 4:

"Today, three in ten children born on the Skyborne Isles have the striking complexion of the Sky-Touched. In recent centuries, the acceleration of our physical alterations has increased, and many scholars believe that the last vestiges of our kaldorei heritage may vanish entirely within two to three more generations. The cause of this transformation may never be fully understood. Yet it is plain that, in making our lives within the elemental plane, we as a people are being changed by it in turn. Learned in the quests that there were 3 Skyborne islands (and they've recently begun to drift apart/fall out of contact): Zephras, Anvilas, and Siroccas. Where Valanaar is the capital of Zephras, Shen'dramar and New Eldre'naar were the capitals of the other islands.
The completion quest text for the Crab Season quest. It reads:

"Windsong Crawler meat is common enough here but it was something of a delicacy on the islands of Anvilas and Siroccas. Was a time, back when the skystreams were open that the locals would mob me for the stuff when I'd make the trip to Shen'dramar or New Eldre'naar."

This is the only thing I've found so far that gives any indication of what Shen'dorei lifespans might be. Valennia said she served the Shal'nan for almost 900 years and she's one of the only living Shen'dorei left who got to talk to him.
Gossip dialogue for an NPC named Valennia Stormfist. She says:

"I might be the only living shen'dorei left amongst our people who had more than a handful of words with him. I served him as the captain of his Empyrean Blades for nearly nine centuries, right up until... he left us."

Found a lore book covering the Shen'dralar rebellion that led to the Skyborne called "The Rebellion in Eldre'Thalas, Part 1" Not TOO much new lore in it (we already knew about Goldrinn) but it does narrow down the timeline a bit and give us some interesting new morsels
Page 1:

"You touch the small white crystal and you can hear faint sounds on the wind. This is an audio recording of some sort: The Rebellion in Eldre'Thalas, Part 1" Page 2:

"In the days immediately following the turmoil at the Well of Eternity, there was much unrest in Eldre'Thalas. The demonic forces that poured from the Well nearly overwhelmed the beleaguered elvish kingdoms, ravaging the land and killing indiscriminately. If not for the intervention of the demigod Goldrinn and the sacrifice of countless kaldorei heroes, the kingdom of Eldre'Thalas would surely have been overrun and destroyed."Page 3:

"After the climax of the war and the Great Sundering of Kalimdor, the new reality of a world bereft of the sustaining magic on which our people depended quickly became apparent. The ruling house of Eldre'Thalas -- House Tortheldrin -- rapidly set plans in motion to ensure stability and continuity of our way of life. However, the methods they intended to employ left many deeply concerned."Page 4:

"The young Prince Tortheldrin intended to build a network of crystalline foci and use them to siphon and shape a new font of power for our people to draw upon. The point of contention for many was that he intended to use the very power that nearly destroyed our world to accomplish this. He meant to siphon the power from a demon world within the Twisting Nether itself. Many rightly feared this could open a new door through which demonic entities might once again gain access to our world."

okay so I did NOT expect to see High Priestess Lorthuna (from Deepholm quests) referenced in the Skyborne intro and now I have QUESTIONS (so she joined the cult really early on? Is she technically a high elf then?)
A quest from the Skyborne starting zone. It reads:

A band of Al'Aketh cult ruffians have taken up residence near the temple ruins just southwest of here, led by a real monster called Malduko Cloudcrush. This rabble has no doubt been dispatched here by High Priestess Lorthuna at the Shrine of Akir to attack travelers and coerce our people into joining the cult.High Priestess Lorthuna's profile from the Warcraft Wiki.

okay but as a crazy lore nerd, one of the most exciting reveals in the WoW Forever news was the Drowned City dungeon bc I'm pretty sure it's a reference to the troll city of I'lalai which got wiped out by Neptulon at some point in the past!
A screenshot of the Drowned City dungeon from WoW Forever. An excerpt from a tablet in a vanilla WoW quest that talks about I'lalai. It says:

The Krakken then bent their fury upon Min'loth, and an ocean fell upon I'lalai. And it was no more. And then the waters fell upon the jungle, washing clean all they met. Trolls and beasts cried out as the waters smashed and drowned them. Many Gurubashi wondered why the ocean swallowed them, but then they died and knew nothing. And finally, when the waters reached the mountains, they stopped. Appeased, they retreated back beyond the shores, and they left a wake of death. They retreated, but they surged around I'lalai and remained, drowning it forever. And the chief Var'gazul, safe behind the mountains in Zul'Gurub, went out to the jungle and found it washed clean of his people. And he despaired, for his dreams of conquest were thwarted. And never was Min'loth the Serpent found.

With the 12.2 cinematic + Xal'atath's intentions to "merge" with Azeroth made clear, I wanna go back to the Forbidden Reach book saying Xal'atath will "fulfill the final prophecy and complete the awakening". Is the awakening them merging in this case...? also, Azshara for 13.0?
The last page of the "A Song of the Depths" book from Forbidden Reach. It says:

When these things come to pass, the Harbinger will fulfill the final prophecy and complete the awakening. Only then shall our Queen return to reign over sea and sky and earth. We must make ready. Rise, rise! Soon all that was hidden will be revealed.A screenshot from the Xal'atath 12.2 cinematic premiered at Blizzcon in which she's saying she and the Azeroth world soul will "become one".

Playing through 12.0.7 stuff and Naigtal is a DRAENEI COLONY PLANET?? The planet's natives named it Naigtal (according to the console at the start), but the draenei refer to it as Teloru'vil. That explains the Burning Legion's interest in the world though since they were hunting the draenei!

I am BUZZING about this cinematic holy crap, the flashback scenes are word for word from Blood of the Highborne down to the details about the rain, Vandellor lashing out at her with his nails, the abomination killing Vandellor with its sickle, everything!
A shot of the abomination that kills Vandellor in the recent Liadrin cinematic. An excerpt from Blood of the Highborne when Vandellor is killed in front of Liadrin:

"Vandellor cried out. A rusty blade erupted from his chest. Liadrin looked to the high priest's back and saw the handle of a sickle protruding. Her eyes followed the chain back several paces, where one of the giant stitched-together terrors stood, slavering. It yanked, ripping the sickle from Vandellor's back, severing his spine. The old elf collapsed. With an anguished cry Liadrin dropped to her knees and, more desperately than ever before, sought the powers of the Light. But in her frenzied state the Light's radiant bliss was beyond her."A shot of undead Vandellor approaching Liadrin in the cinematic. An excerpt from Blood of the Highborne:

"Liadrin crushed the skull of a thing that had once been an elven guardian, squinted to see through the rain, and realized with a gut-wrenching despair that the enemy approaching her was familiar: it was an old man wearing the robes of a high priest. She lowered her truncheon as she looked into the spiritless eyes of Vandellor. I cannot do this. I cannot do this! You must. Do not look into his eyes. The walking corpse that had once been Liadrin's mentor and substitute father raked out with long nails, clumsily slashing at her face. His robes were stained a dark crimson, and the center of his chest was nothing more than a ragged maggot-infested concavity. The former high priestess cursed the Light, cursed it with a passion that defied all she had once held to be righteous and true, and buried her truncheon in the side of Vandellor's head."

it's VERY interesting to me that Xal'atath telling Salhadaar she "offers a true path forward" aligns more with how the Light views things than the Void
An excerpt from the 1000 Years of War audio drama in which Locus-Walker tells Alleria about the nature of the Void and Light. He says, "The Light seeks one path and shuns all others as lies. The Shadow seeks every possible path and sees them all as truth."A shot of Xal'atath speaking to Salhadaar in the recent Xal'atath: Supremacy animatic. She's telling Salhadaar, "only I offer a true path forward."
