大阪大学の石谷太教授らは、正常な細胞が異常な細胞を排除する「細胞競合」に関わる遺伝子を特定した。この遺伝子を活用すれば、除去される異常細胞を可視化できる。細胞競合が起きる場所や時期を調べられ、病気の解明や医薬品の開発などにつながる可能性がある。細胞は分裂をくり返して増殖し、臓器や組織を形づくる。人間や動物の体には増殖の過程でできた異常な細胞を除去する細胞競合という現象がある。この働きが低下する
