Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Lots of safety/efficacy work still to be done, but hypoxia-based therapies could have broad applications from rare mitochondrial diseases to age-associated neurodegeneration. We are interested in additional partnerships in academia/industry to continue this work. Send me a DM! 000
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Huge congratulations to all co-authors -- first-author Skyler Blume and all the folks at Maze (Maarten Hoek, Chris Sinz, Gijs Grotenbreg, Eric Green, Vyas Ramanan and more)! 100
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Key Findings: ✅ HypoxyStat induces hypoxia comparable to 11% O₂ inhalation (~4500m altitude). ✅ Extends lifespan 3-4x in the Ndufs4KO mouse model of mitochondrial disease. ✅ Reverses disease pathology—even at late stages! 100
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025💊 Enter HypoxyStat—a small molecule that increases how tightly hemoglobin holds onto oxygen, thereby reducing oxygen release into tissues and causing hypoxia without requiring specialized gas environments or moving to the mountains! 100
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025A quick thread: mitochondrial dysfunction causes an imbalance in oxygen supply and demand, leading to tissue hyperoxia. We've previously shown that inhaled hypoxia can dramatically extend lifespan in disease models. But how do we translate this into a practical therapy? 100
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025PS. We're hiring! If you're excited about oxygen or redox cofactor (vitamin) metabolism come work with us @ArcInstitute @GladstoneInst @UCSF! Postdoc candidates, Apply here: grnh.se/7c94a5004us 100
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 17/02/2025🚨 New paper alert! 🚨 Check out our latest work on HypoxyStat, a small-molecule therapy that increases oxygen-hemoglobin affinity and provides a practical form of hypoxia therapy. A great collaboration with Maze Therapeutics 🔗 Paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.ce... @cp-cell.bsky.socialdoi.orgRedirecting 33012
Isha Jain @ishahjain.bsky.social · 09/02/2025Slowly making my way over here. Excited to connect with you all! We study all things oxygen, redox and vitamins! 031
