THERE WAS A WORD FOR YOU THIS MONTH: It Came To Make You Strong
A monthly reflection inviting readers to look back on the Hope After Losing It All series, Claire, Kiran, Maya, Anya, and the midnight standoff between Loneliness and Hope, and recognize which story reached them this month. Part call-to-action, part correspondence, this piece asks readers to send in the loss, character, or truth they need next, shaping the direction of the series and tying it back to the themes at the heart of the debut novel, Buried Things Can Still Bloom.

BLOOMING MIGHT HURT…BUT IT IS WORTH IT: Ask The Rose”
A rose doesn’t bloom on demand. It sits in the dark, in the wait, through seasons it didn’t choose, and so did Kael Morrison. He tried to rush his own healing: chasing revenge, drowning his pain in alcohol, demanding his body and his life snap back overnight. But growth doesn’t skip its own timeline. The pruning wasn’t gentle. The waiting wasn’t comfortable. Kael’s story is the proof: blooming might hurt, but it is worth every single moment.

AGAINST ALL ODDS: What Kael Morrison Can Teach Us About Never Giving Up
Some mountains are built to make you retreat. Kael Morrison’s was betrayal, humiliation, a wheelchair, and a balcony railing at the edge of everything. He chose to climb anyway. Buried Things Can Still Bloom: The Awakening of Kael is a story about the moment most people never come back from — and the ember that refuses to go out, even against all odds. It’s a rallying cry for anyone standing at the base of their own impossible climb, wondering if the fight is still worth having. It is. You are.

BECAUSE HE REMEMBERED: How To Rise Above The Darkness
A stain spreading across a factory floor. A pink slip delivered in the time it takes a kettle to boil. A freezing balcony railing pressed against his chest while he counted down from ten. Every reason in the world to stay buried, and he had every one of them. But Kael remembered. Not to relive the pain, but to grow straight through it. He remembered that a storm doesn’t come to bury you, it comes to show you what you can carry. So a termination letter became eighty-seven thousand pounds and a business plan with his name at the top. A cold floor at rehab, shame and a call button just out of reach, became the breath that kept him alive. And when the ghost of his deepest trauma sat three tables away, alive and breathing, he didn’t let hate take the wheel. He chose to keep both their futures alive instead. This is not a story about forgetting what broke you. It’s about remembering it well enough to bloom.

BURIED THINGS CAN STILL BLOOM: A Special Reminder For A New Week
Buried Things Can Still Bloom follows Kael Morrison through betrayal, loss, and the kind of unraveling that strips a person down to their foundation. This is a story for anyone carrying compounded grief, the loss of work, of independence, of identity and wondering if there is still a version of them left to become. It is a reminder that what has been buried is not the same as what has been destroyed.

FREEDOM WAS ALWAYS WAITING FOR YOU: A Letter to the Ones Still Fighting
To the one reading this with shaking hands, to the one who’s poured out more bottles than they’ve kept, to the one who knows what it feels like to grip a railing and wonder if letting go might be easier than holding on, this is for you. Kael Morrison knew that grip too. He drank to survive the unbearable. He stood on a ledge convinced his story was over. But freedom found him there, not the freedom that arrives easy, but the freedom to choose one more day, even when despair had already written the ending. You don’t have to have it figured out. You just have to choose the next hour. BURIED THINGS CAN STILL BLOOM. Even For You..

FROM HIS WEAKNESS, HE FORGED STRENGTH: The Demosthenes Effect.
Kael Morrison lost his mother at thirteen, watching her die in front of him. He lost the use of his legs chasing the man responsible. He lost his job, his dignity, and very nearly his life, standing on a balcony ledge, convinced there was nothing left to fight for. Everyone around him would have understood if he’d stayed broken. Nobody would have blamed him for staying buried. But Buried Things Can Still Bloom: The Awakening of Kael is the story of a man who chose otherwise, turning wreckage into resurrection, and an impossible choice between vengeance and grace into the foundation for something extraordinary.

THERE IS BEAUTY WAITING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN: A Truth To Remember.
Kael Morrison didn’t choose his mountain. Grief, betrayal, addiction, and loss chose it for him. Misunderstood and abandoned by those he trusted, he faced a climb far steeper than rock and cliff, and every reason to stop. But he kept walking. Not because he could see the waterfall waiting for him, but because something inside him refused to believe the climb was the end of the story. BURIED THINGS CAN STILL BLOOM: The Awakening of Kael is a raw, unflinching journey through darkness toward light, proof that even the most punishing terrain can lead somewhere radiant. If you’re walking through your own difficult season right now, Kael’s story is the reminder you need: the discomfort is not a dead end. It’s a passage. Read the full story now:

THE ART OF SHIMMERING AGAIN: How To Get Your Glow Back (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
She stood in the wreckage of her own resignation letter, staring into a mirror that no longer recognised her, until Hope, patient as a Brother, showed her that her shimmer was never about the title she lost. “ The Art of Shimmering Again: How to Get Your Glow Back” is the latest installment in the Hope After Losing It All series, a poem for anyone standing in the ashes of who they used to be, wondering if the glow is gone for good. It isn’t. It never left. It was only waiting to be found.

THE DUEL: Don’t Believe Every Voice (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
In “THE DUEL: Don’t Believe Every Voice,” Loneliness takes the stage first, calm, patient, and devastatingly convincing. He knows every empty seat, every unanswered message, every quiet night that feels like proof of being forgotten. But HOPE steps into the light next, and what follows isn’t a gentle rebuttal, IT IS A DUEL. Line by line, lie by lie, Hope dismantles the case Loneliness has built, reminding us that pain is real but it was never the whole story. This piece is for anyone who has sat in a silence and mistaken it for abandonment. A reminder, in verse, that you are seen, known, and never as alone as the quiet makes you feel.

HOPE ON THE ANVIL ROAD: A Neon Coloured Adventure (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
Part of the Hope After Losing All series In one brutal season, Maya loses her mother, company, and fiancé, and finds herself utterly alone in a city of a million people. Desperate to escape the weight of her grief, she straps on an overloaded backpack she names “The Anvil” and sets out to walk 150 miles of California coastline, from the Golden Gate Bridge to the cliffs of Bixby Creek. Along the way, help arrives in an unexpected form, a stranger’s coffee, and the quiet grace of putting one foot in front of the other. This poem traces how Hope meets us not with grand miracles, but with small, persistent nudges that ask only for the next step.

OUT OF THE RUBBLE: Building Again After The Trauma (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
Trauma doesn’t just take something from you, it demolishes the blueprint you were living by. Load-Bearing Scars follows one man’s rebuilding, guided by Hope disguised as a master architect who surveys the wreckage, measures the scars, and insists nothing is wasted, only repurposed. This is A poem about turning rubble into a foundation. Has Hope ever shown up for you looking less like comfort and more like construction? Share your story in the comments.

HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Shed With The Working Kettle (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
At fifty, he beat cancer, but lost his house anyway. This installment of the Hope After Losing All series follows one man’s journey through survivor’s guilt, the five stages of grief, and the quiet loneliness of starting over, until Hope arrives in the most unexpected form: his brother’s backyard shed, a working kettle, and the words “stay as long as it takes.” This spoken word poem is about rebuilding an identity from nothing, and discovering that Hope doesn’t leave when the crisis does.

HOW CLAIRE GOT HER FIRE BACK: Reigniting Your Soul After Bereavement (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
She used to be like fire, loud, unapologetic, dancing before the music started. Then grief walked in and put it out, one quiet Tuesday at a time. This is Claire’s story: the wet-cement mornings, the loneliness that hit hardest in crowded rooms, and the three slow years it took for something in her to spark again. Not because the pain disappeared, but because HOPE refused to leave her sitting in the ash. For anyone grieving a person and grieving themselves at the same time, this one’s for you.

A spoken word poem following Kiran, a whistleblower whose decision to expose the truth costs him his career, relationships, and his sense of self. Told through the lens of HOPE, embodied by his steady, unhurried uncle Kaz, the poem traces four years of grief, addiction, and slow rebuilding after speaking up. LOSING MY CAREER ALMOST BROKE ME: How I Lived After The Resignation Letter (HOPE AFTER LOSING IT ALL: The Series)
Part One of the Hope After Losing All series. This spoken word poem opens in the moment of signing a resignation letter, the verdict-like silence, and identity collapse that follows losing a career built over years. It doesn’t skip the crash: the weeks unable to get out of bed, grief for a lost title, grocery-aisle tears, the terrifying question of “what have I done?” Through it all, Hope remains, not as a quick fix, but as a Father, Brother, and Best Friend, leading, guiding, protecting, and providing across a decade of rebuilding. This isA poem for anyone standing at the edge of a decision they know is right, but are too afraid to make.

Hours before he begins, the memory of his collapse rises first, urging him to quit. But another memory, older and more radiant, refuses to be drowned out: a memory of a day Hope already carried him to victory. Drawing from it like a river at high tide, he finds strength, courage, and direction restored, and writes with a clarity that surprises even him. This poem is an invitation to remember your own Memories of Hope, the ones still waiting in your depths, ready to rise again for whatever battle stands before you now.

Before beauty, there’s the hard part. A potter aches in the dust long before the world calls his work art. That’s how Hope shapes us, patiently. Your victory isn’t the goal. Becoming is. Read this new poem @ isabellajoshua.com/2026/07/11/f... #poetry #spokenword #writingcommunity #poetscommunity

FOLDED INTO THE GLAZE: How Hope Transforms the Clay (RAYS OF HOPE-The Collection
In this poem, Hope is pictured as a potter shaping us the way clay is shaped on a wheel, patiently, and without giving up on us. The poem starts with the physical work of pottery (tired hands, aching knees, a shape still forming) and then shows how Hope works on us in the same way. He isn’t trying to show us off or make us look good to others. He’s simply helping us become who we were always meant to be. Every hard moment, every crack, every quiet struggle gets used, not wasted. It’s a poem about patience, purpose, and the difference between chasing a win and actually becoming whole.
