Dead Internet 2026: DARPA, Peter Thiel, Alien AI & Memetic Magick
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiuBn8hOoqc (*Watch on YT 9/24 7pm EST!)
On today's episode of the Occult Symbolism and Pop Culture with Isaac Weishaupt podcast we have our third episode of the Kwarter Kwell with Joel Thomas from Free the Rabbits podcast! Today we're breaking down the Dead Internet Theory:
"Is the internet still populated by people—or are we increasingly interacting with machines?
In Episode 3 of Isaac & Joel’s Kwarter Kwell, Joel Thomas and Isaac Weishaupt dive into the Dead Internet Theory and the unsettling possibility that bots, AI-generated content, algorithms, and manufactured engagement are beginning to overwhelm genuine human activity online. They trace the theory back to the mysterious “Illuminati Pirate” thread and explore how social media algorithms can create artificial consensus, filter bubbles, outrage cycles, and digital environments designed to keep users emotionally engaged.
From the origins of ARPANET and DARPA to LifeLog, Total Information Awareness, In-Q-Tel, Facebook, Peter Thiel, Palantir, Narrative Science, AI-generated journalism, bot farms, and the attention economy, we examine the long-running effort to collect human behavior as data—and whether today's internet represents the evolution of those systems. They then ask whether artificial intelligence could function like an alien intelligence and connects the rise of AI to Jacques Vallée, Jack Parsons, David Bowie, John C. Lilly, occult philosophy, Gnosticism, transhumanism, the Singularity, and humanity's fascination with escaping the physical world.
Lastly, they enter the world of Memetic Magick: the idea that memes, bots, viral narratives, manufactured controversy, likes, comments, and algorithmic amplification can function as tools for manipulating collective consciousness. If enough artificial accounts tell you that everyone believes something…how long before the humans begin believing it too?
Are we using the internet—or is the internet using us?"
