tariffs are taxes paid to the US government by US companies and persons who have US import licenses. they aren’t “charged to countires that have been cheating us.”

In the 1970s and 1980s most days you had to be within a couple of miles to see the 6000 ft San Gabriel Mountains. The GOP railed on pollution control and car fuel economy and prohibiting cargo ships from belching diesel particulates. Long Beach had abnormally high lung cancer rates and was dubbed a “diesel death zone”. I remember seeing clouds of soot particles kicked up by passing RTD buses. Now we see the mountains most days from Long Beach 30 miles away. When I run my hand over the patio bench it comes up dusty, not black with soot.

So, when the GOP says, “Drill, Baby, drill!”, and continues pushing pollution for profit, all I can say is, “Really?”

what would it be costing you to just park these guys with crews,
if they belonged to you? why, in 30 years, have we never noticed empties parked in the channel?

there are usually a few full container ships stacked up in the Catalina Channel off the Ports go Long Beach and Los Angeles. It’s probably less significant how many there are as the fact that since shortly after “Liberation Day”, they’re all empty.

GOP “Tariff” nonsense evident outside the ports of LA and Long Beach. Half a dozen empty cargo ships in the Catalina channel. In 30 years I don’t recall ever seeing this.
