Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Part of this is this insistence, which gets taken as conventional wisdom, that "Nazi" is often and easily thrown around as a political epithet. In the post-Reaganite context I grew up in that wasn't true? If anything political discourse worked to soften the right. 010
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Not what we do here? There's literally a right-wing hack book called "Liberal Fascism." 000
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Americans don't actually believe in capitalism as much as the world thinks we do! Not the mutually competitive market for goods and services or land or labor, anyway. 1501
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 11/10/2026It would be great if nonfascist people on both sides of the Atlantic could see the far right as a common threat they should stand against together. But that would require American humility and a commitment to returning to the status of an ordinary country without foreign bases when this is over. 030
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Yes! The phrase "literacy crisis" gets thrown around a lot, but I'd wager it's something about child-centered learning meets fandom. 000

Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 08/10/2026White rural voters, yes. They're the ones propping up the white exurban/rural power structure, the key villain here. 050

Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 07/10/2026There's just something about the internet, I think, that makes people want the information, resources, and services they get from it to be free. Students taking online lessons often think those should be very cheap or free. I had to get out of that industry because of that. 000
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Frankly, the only news here is that supposedly there even *are* impeachment plans. 000
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026IKR? Folks are also assuming they'd go to Federation space. You could get sent to Cardassia Prime. 000

Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026The point was and is, there are (always!) several particular reasons why politicians do what they do. She hasn't been publicly active in any real way since Nov. 2024. 110

Captions are typically written to support a photo, and usually depend on users being able to see the photo. But alt text is meant to be the stand-in for the photo. The alt text is what a screen reader user gets in place of the photo. 19656
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Can we get rid of the consultants on the other side of all this? 000
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 01/10/2026And insert whatever extreme-from-the-median ideology you want to in the thought experiment—the impaired ability to clearly signal anti-incumbent politics is the same. With at least one more party, people can express that more clearly. 120
Irenē @irenecolth.bsky.social · 01/10/2026So, we saw a big problem with the two-party system in the 2024 cycle. The key voters were anti-incumbent. They wanted to vote the incumbent out. But that meant voting for the other major party. The other major party is fascist. People thus thought the electorate wanted fascism. 140
