I waited at a public library between meetings. To be able to say this in the Philippines 🥹

I’m sad to miss @altmobilityph.bsky.social’a Mobility Chat this year, but glad colleagues could be there to pick-up from where we left off in 2025 - and from Manila to Cebu! Better mobility will take all of us coming together: government, civil society, and the private sector ✨

At least two gasoline stations had pump maintenance issues tonight. Interesting timing, with an expected average price increase of PHP4/liter coming Tuesday. 👀

But the conversation extends beyond the budget: How do we design resilient cities? Ones that can absorb disruption and recover quickly after a natural disturbance: Protecting a day’s wages and sales, access to healthcare and schools, and the delivery of goods and supplies.

Congress unanimously supports restoring DOTr’s budget. Decades of civil society work paying off. Grateful to the many volunteers and government allies. 💡Transport is more than just getting from A to B; it connects people to jobs, education, community… www.rappler.com/philippines/...

Better public transportation? These bus, train projects may have no funding in 2027
The Department of Budget and Management approved only 30 of the 179 projects proposed by the transportation department for inclusion in its proposed 2027 budget

Pasig’s LPTRP highlights the value of developmental routes: Expanding PT where it’s needed or ahead of demand. Importantly, Mayor Vico Sotto recognizes potential displacement and plans livelihood opportunities for affected sectors.

How do we make sure the voices of commuters and often-overlooked sectors are heard? Today’s launch of Momentum Research highlights ways polling can evolve: New ways of reaching people and better ways of building samples that reflect different sectors ✨

Thanks to Robert Siy for the opportunity to get a glimpse of Filipino-Chinese relations through the lens of #China Bank’s history. Morning well spent meeting people from Manila and #Xiamen University 📸 Ivan Man Dy

Good pilots build confidence to be a little more ambitious ✨ Civil society pushes for better; government pilots. While still room to improve, change happens in phases and the EDSA rehab shows a shift in the approach to active transport.

Thanks to MMDA and Gab Go for creating a platform to discuss not just road safety, but also the gig economy. A departure from the traditional 8-to-5, it reflects the changing ways people live and work, and the evolving demands of everyday life.

Every successful pilot builds confidence to be a little more ambitious ✨ It’s good to see Ayala expand its carless streets all the way to the Salcedo Weekend Market. Here’s hoping this encourages even bolder ideas that continue putting people at the center of our cities ♥️

One harbor reinvented through repainted homes; one mining town revived by rescued cats. In northern #Taiwan, the decline of old industries became an opportunity for communities to reimagine themselves ✨

Protecting vulnerable road users requires more than just paint and physical barriers. Policies must evolve to promote safer speeds, street designs that discourage speeding, and reduced distractions on the road. 📍Julia Vargas, Pasig

The Quezon Memorial Monument stands at 66 meters - the age (almost) of President Manuel Quezon when he died in 1944. You’re welcome.

In a country of ribbon-cutting, it’s progress in the advocacy to see a President + two Cabinet Secretaries inaugurate a bus station. Eight years ago, this would not have even hit the news. While still a ways to go, undeniably a step forward. x.com/inquirerdotn...

The EDSA Busway shows what’s possible when projects are carried forward across administrations and when the government works with the private sector: Sustained, improved (could be faster, sure), and expanded to deliver real mobility gains.

The crazy assortment of things you need (or not, lol) aside, Bikeary provides a safe environment to explore cycling. If not that, a cool refuge in between commutes! A real gem to the bike community. Watch here: youtu.be/x3FD-moy51w?...

🥹 Happy to see open spaces like Greenfield that allow people to simply be - sit, gather, play. Too often, open spaces come with restrictions driven by security concerns. Small things like this definitely go a long way in making our life in Metro Manila better ✨

Valenzuela has been consistent in building parks for its residents and, like Marikina, has made good use of its waterways to improve livability. People shouldn’t have to leave their city just to enjoy green space, and Valenzuela is definitely on that path.

Tomas Morato has come a long way. While still car-dominated, sidewalks are noticeably wider, well-lit, and people-friendly. It shows what’s possible when a local government treats active transportation as a real deliverable.

I tried #Moovr for the first time to get around BGC and it’s perfect for traveling across long-ish distances fast. Well, if only I located a docking station before kicking off and no, you can’t drag it around parks and buildings looking for a dock - it’s sets off an alarm 🫠

There’s no question that government processes can be improved. But the more urgent issue is road safety; the real threat to society comes from unsafe driving behavior. That’s where conversations needs to focus.

After seeing how misinformation has distorted public discourse over the years, it feels important to say that, in an age of rapid sharing, pausing to verify and add context before posting matters. Even unintentional misinformation can harm public trust. www.philstar.com/headlines/20...

Filipino concern over online disinformation hits record high – Digital News Report 2025
A record 67% of Filipinos say they are concerned about online disinformation. Political actors are seen as the top source of falsehoods, above influencers and journalists.

1/x: Things I learned from Taipei (and it’s really basic): Dead space is a design choice. Spaces beneath rail lines and bridges can be useful when design is intentional + people-centered #Placemaking

Alleyways usually get a bad rep, but Taipei has a really good alley game ✨ and it’s fantastic for mobility. It feels organic to their culture and built environment: clean, well-lit, with constant eyes on the street that make them safe and functional. Share your favorite eskinita 👀

✅ Resting allowed. This is what it looks like when a city designs for people: basic seating areas where you don’t need to spend to meet friends and where resting is not a crime.

There’s something about the energy of terminals ✨Once in a while, when done right (or better), it’s this beautiful chaos of moving people across cities. Here’s hoping for more terminals built with the welfare of people above all else.

🫡 QC made the sidewalks adjacent the Elliptical Road people-friendly by simply allowing life to happen ✨ The raised, dedicated bike lanes doubled as buffer against high-volume, high-speed traffic. Smart cities, after all, is all about making the ordinary, daily life easy 😉

I’m pretty vanilla in most things which, incidentally, includes my preference for vanilla ice cream. Over dinner I was asked what I wanted for dessert, so I picked vanilla. When it arrived, I had a choice of three toppings. The irony 🫩

For better or for worse, I love the uncontrolled, people-led, and sensory-overload that is Metro Manila. Yes, tough to see through it all but it’s there ✨ not to romanticize; instead, know that, as a metropolis, we can offer a vibe that is uniquely us!

It’s one of those lines: If I told my 2019 self that by 2025 mobility would be central to discussions and would actively be participated in by civil society, academe, government, private sector - I wouldn’t believe myself. But here we are - and that’s really worth something ✨

The other thing we need to be talking about: In his statement, DOH Sec. Ted said 35 Filipinos die each day due to road crashes. Thankful to Jean Todt and Mikee Cojuangco for lending their voices to highlight the urgency to protect road users - esp. the most vulnerable.
