What a class act. I hope people still dumb enough to have MAGA acquaintances are keeping them away from their kids.

It’s the only way Trump can still rape them now that he’s old and feeble.

Toilet Paper USA was and is an anti-free-speech domestic terror organization. Its leader dying should be applauded.

Just a reminder for any actual American for when he finally succeeds in demolishing his coequal branches and goes full dictator, as he is clearly now trying to.

Uh huh. I guess a good place to start would be the CCP’s genocide of the Uyghers and their obsession with Taiwan? But, yeah: hot take.

Thank you for these. I always tap my wife’s shoulder to show her saying, “This is good content.” (Added with a picture of Glitter guarding her realm of Christmas lights.)

Some may argue that the most accurate Tv depiction of Democrats is in West Wing, but I think it’s The Good Place that hits it out of the park.

BHM Black sf for 2/20: Ngugi wa Thiong’o’s The Wizard of the Crow (2006). While arguably an odd addition, its slipstream worldbuilding and themes of science as it intersects capital put it in the mix. In the dictatorial country of Aburiria, the Ruler seeks to leave his mark on the global scene.

BHM Black sf for 2/19: Ivana Akotowaa Ofori’s *The Year of Return* (2024). During a Ghanaian journalist’s visit home with her friends, the spirits of those lost in the Middle Passage, called “Coasters,” begin emerging from the sea, shutting down the world COVID style. But what is it they want?

BHM Black sf for 2/18: Sofia Samatar’s *The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain* (2023). When a boy is freed from slave labor in the hold and enrolled in a school on an interstellar mining ship, he discovers a new form of communication using his electronic ankle bracelet that might undo the system.

BHM Black sf for 2/17: Karen Lord’s *The Best of All Possible Worlds* (2013). Part sentimental novel, the Earth is a peripheral backwater in this galactic tale wherein a proud alien society is decimated and the protagonist attempts to help some survivors relocate to the diverse planet of Cygnus Beta

BHM Black sf for 2/16: Tochi Onyebuchi’s *War Girls* (2019). Historically relocating the Nigeria-Biafra civil war into the future, Onyebuchi sees the Global North fleeing radioactive aftermath by moving to orbit, leaving Nigeria battling over the mineral that powers the new mech weapons.

Fell behind but catching up. BHM Black sf for 2/15: Samuel Delany’s *Trouble on Triton* (1976). One of my favorites, Delany’s “ambiguous heterotopia” plays in the corners of the New Wave critical utopia. In a world in which you can be almost anyone you want, can one still be unable to find oneself?

BHM Black sf for 2/14: Tananarive Due’s African Immortals series. Tracing the edge of scifi, fantasy and horror, the series follows members of shadowy society that has the secret to immortality.

BHM Black sf for 2/13: NK Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy. Jemisin was the first author to win three consecutive Hugos, one for each book in this series, and for good reason. In a unique post-apocalyptic world filled with geological magic, Jemisin does great things with narrative perspectives.

BHM Black sf for 2/12: Nnedi Okorafor’s *Lagoon*. Like some other authors, she could (and will) have multiple entries as she has been foundational in centering Black sf, and Africanfuturism in particular, over the past decade. Her mix of alien sf and local religious practice straddle science/magic.

BHM Black sf, 2/11: Nalo Hopkinson’s commanding *Midnight Robber* (2000). Narrated in an invented Caribbean patois, the tale of Tan-Tan the Robber Queen blends interplanetary and interdimensional epic with the sights, sounds, and smells of Carnival and a unique AI in the ‘Nansi web, Granny Nanny.

BHM Black sf for 2/10: Walter Mosley’s *Futureland* (2001). Channeling a strong noir sensibility, Mosley strings together nine short stories in an impressive dystopian, and ultimately apocalyptic, world-building exercise that comments powerfully on the exploitation and imprisonment of Black bodies.

BHM Black sf for 2/9. Deji Bryce Olukotun’s Brain Gain duology: *Nigerians in Space* (2013) and *After the Flare* (2017)—the first is a rousing thriller in which a scientist runs for his life from a shadowy organization; in the second, Nigeria develops the world’s foremost space program.

BHM Black sf for 2/7. As with Delany, any of fellow Grand Master Octavia Butler’s oeuvre could appear here, and I’ll certainly include one or two more, but Kindred stands alone in its meditation on the way the wounds of the past inevitably intersect the present.
