No author ever thinks their book is "perfect". No artist thinks any work is "perfect". That's not what it's about. Old Man's War is amazing. Would it still be amazing with some changes? Probably. But why bother changing what's already great? As an old soldier, thank you for that story. Loved it.

That's exactly my point. Many people will read books like that without using an ounce of critical thinking, and the consequences are negative. Just because I think some books are harmful doesn't mean I'm afraid of thinking. I'm afraid of how many people read certain books without thinking.

Depends on the book and the amount of thinking, doesn't it? I have read "Mein Kampf". It is fantastically boring, but some parts contain dangerous ideas that could cause damage if someone were to believe them. I am afraid of someone reading the book and NOT thinking enough to question it.

Bit of a misleading headline, isn't it? The monument is not "too religious". It IS religious, and favors ONE religion over all others. On public grounds. Maybe people would spot the issue better if it was a plaque saying "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet". Or... a Baphomet.

Interesting! I didn't know that Soviet tactical nukes didn't have PAL systems. That makes it even clearer why the US and Russia were so desperate to promise whatever it took to get those nukes. Not that they ever intended to keep those promises, anyway.

It could be true that Ukraine did not have, at the time, the codes to use the nukes on their own. But they probably had the expertise to, given some time, either build their own with the materials or gain control of the ones they had. They built them in the first place, after all.
