I've been getting hit by a sudden overwhelming wave of creative energy over the last few days, I made a few new characters who I'll post here as they come along First up, Jhadea!! one of H.U.S.E.C's most trusted contractees. #characterdesign #lore #worldbuilding

and now for something completely different: a redesign of a really old OC of mine who has gone rather neglected until now, Courser. He was originally a pitch for a risk of rain 2 mod character, but now has a life of his own (little lore blurb in alt text)

Courser, a large, hyperintelligent fungus with a synthetic body of mechanical limbs and a hermetically sealed suit which conceals his nervous system consisting of mycelial fronds which operate said synthetics via electrical impulses.

He works as a charter for hazardous and hostile environments by using his spores to create a fungal mycelium network to navigate and chart his course, marking where he has been, collecting environmental data like soil composition, atmospherics, overall moisture, and etc. before reporting back to his contractors with the requested information, usually prior to terraforming or large scale colonization.

Next up on the worldbuilding docket: Akenesis, sole proprietor, founder, and curator of The Anamnesioch, the pride and joy of the Aetherian race, a living breathing archive of the entire universe, containing exactly two of every distinct phenomenon or object in existence. (Alt-Text Loredump)

The man himself. Akenesis, the Curator, the Archivist, the Taxidermist, renowned psychic and purveyor of knowledge in-universe. Frequently contacted by various individuals for either access to the Anamnesioch, his tutelage in psychic abilities, to provide a submission to the archives, or anything else they might from him. He holds no real allegiances except to the Aetherian race, and even then only tentatively, and operates on his own inscrutable code of morals.

The form you see above is twofold: The gaseous smog that emanates from his coat, that is his true body. He is a being of pure energy as most Aetherians are, and the external shell that he occupies is actually the taxidermied corpse of a thief; the one and only thief who managed to steal from the Anamnesioch and get away with it. Said thief, whose name is long lost to time, made away with a simple piece, simple relative to the other items in the Anamnesioch anyway: A golden statue, of sentimental importance to their family. Their only wish being for it to be seen by the last remaining member of their family before they passed away, their bloodline terminating with them. The artefact was returned to the archives, willingly, even with the knowledge that Akenesis would then terminate them in short order afterwards. It was a simple affair, all things told, but it left a permanent mark on Akenesis, and he wears the body of the thief as his own demented way of honouring their memory.

Personality-wise, Akenesis is highly eccentric for an Aetherian, his mood constantly changing on a dime and his whims unknowable even to him most of the time. Highly unpredictable, but, in the way of business regarding the Anamnesioch, highly serious and terse. And terse should be any interaction with him, unless you are willing to risk one of his mood swings being at personal cost to you.

Anotha one. This time it's Jthuzei, as it gives me an opportunity to talk about the setting a little more as well. Jthuzei. An emissary and warrior-poet belonging to the Aetherian race, an artificial species of sapient golems whose bodies contain a stellar mass. (Gigantic alt-text loredumps ahead)

Jthuzei is a more typical example of their race, being something of a diplomat, tasked with meeting and introducing the Aetherian race to new peoples in advance of their arrival on their world. He's a noble and dignified sort, providing an interaction with him is non-hostile. He carries out first-contact operations in prepping the inhabitants of a new world for a visitation from other members of his race, by informing them of their imminent arrival, of their intentions, and what exactly their goals are by arriving there, or simply leaivng if it's made clear their presence is unwanted (though in some cases they may not have a choice in the matter).

The Eye, pictured in the background, is the Aetherian home planet. It's a rogue planet; a living one, that roams the universe autonomously in search of anomalies and other reality-bending/warping/breaking events/stellar bodies. It was formed from the last conscious remnant of an ancient deity whose body was shattered into pieces by an as-yet unknown cataclysmic event, and understanding said event is considered their main objective of the Aetherian race, who themselves are fragments of the very same deity's mind.

The Eye itself is a very large planet, roughly the size of Jupiter. It has a dense shroud of Aetheric miasma that clings to it, acting as its atmosphere, which gives it the appearance of a gas giant, though there is very much a solid planet underneath it. The glowing core of the planet, visible through a massive pit on its surface, gives it the apperance of a large eye, hence the name.

For more specific information about Jthuzei, he is affable and genuine, forthcoming with all information requested about him and his race. Being a member of their sort of a warrior caste, his body is decorated with several of their unconventional weapons, being dual twin-chainblades which are designed to separate from eachother, to either be swing with his arms, or have the individual blades detached, and wielded telekinetically. The blades are made from the same endlessly-regrowing Chiticite that his body is, so they easy reform into their base chained state after use.

The disc in his chest is an agitator of sorts, it spins up to excite the stellar material-aether mixture inside of his body, accelerating his movements and allowing him to produce greater expulsions of energy when needed. These discs are a hallmark of their race, and most Aetherian-hunters consider it a trophy of having defeated one, as they are only given to living Aetherians as opposed to their carapace which can often be found uninhabited if the Aetherian within isn't inside for whatever reason.

Every Aetherian, and by extension Jthuzei, has a body bound to a stellar mass sealed within their carapace. The sheer will of their mind as a fragment of a deity, combined with the inherent gravitation of an Aetherian soul, keeps the stellar mass contained within them in an infinitely dense state, the only form of energy capable of sustaining the incredible demand of their souls. Jthuzei's body for example houses a neutron star, a stellar corpse of sorts, but its violent and extraordinary energy output grants his body many benefits, such as complete control over the weight and density of his carapace, the ability to project a relatiavistic ray as a form of energy blast (they can all do this but Jthuzei's are especially concentrated) among other benefits. He can also produce radio signals spanning hundreds of lightyears.
