In a new blog, IES Principal Associate Dr Duncan Brown questions whether HR leaders need to ‘think slow’, review their crisis-driven ‘fast’ reactions and plan a clearer direction for their future workforce. Read more: bit.ly/3KT8XeO
Quote from Dr Duncan Brown, "Stopping this breathless cycle of fast-action crisis-responses might appear to be counter-productive to the HR function’s influence. And in the reward sphere this year there appears to a somewhat schizophrenic pattern of action and inaction. We are seeing continuing innovations apparent in employee benefits, especially on the health and wellbeing side, but relatively
low rates of change in pay management."

Ahead of the IES conference (bit.ly/4gwlUa3) which will focus on productivity through people, Daniel Lucy examines the roles of both HR and government policy in addressing the current comparatively low rate of productivity in the UK. Read more: bit.ly/46EbJNc
Quote from Dan Lucy, "With the government’s renewed focus on productivity, both across the economy but also within public services, this year’s IES Annual Conference will be a platform for refocussing and shaping the debate on productivity to high-light the value of effective management of people and the contribution of enlightened HR practices."

New blog! In the light of the House of Lords’ inquiry, Astrid Allen explores the continuing trend of home and hybrid working following COVID-19, the comparable benefits of at-home and in-office working, and achieving the right balance moving forward: bit.ly/3Un9tD5
Quote from Astrid Allen, "It seems that there is no ‘right’ amount of in-office working. Individuals, job roles, teams and businesses will all have different, and often changing, optimum levels of remote and hybrid working."

Read Alison Carter's new blog, which reflects on how organisations can work with employees and develop team relationships to successfully respond to change, particularly relevant in the current fast-changing social and economic climate: bit.ly/4m8e1Ju #changeready
Quote from Alison Carter, "Why do we struggle so much to become, or remain, organisations ready and capable of change in a complex operating environment? The failure rate of organisational change has remained constant for many years suggesting organisations have not been learning from past mistakes."
