I finally read Joyce’s Ulysses and wrote a letter to my future self about it, as I am sure he/I will attempt to read it again in a few years. Joyce was a genius, and he was interested in making a point of it. He was not interested in writing a great novel. iordanou.org/blog/ulysses/

I’m turning forty today. I resisted the urge to write about the passage of time, or my body’s increasingly poor relationship with alcohol, so I wrote instead about 3 books. It is mostly about the absurdity of war, and the case for love, tenderness and human connection. iordanou.org/blog/the-sam...

I keep seeing YouTube videos on "how to start reading the classics?" with a lot of ill advice, making something enjoyable seem daunting. Just start with something accessible, such as Dickens' novels, Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, and take it from there. It should be enjoyable, not a drag.
