What is our friend Ceres holding? 👀 Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture and the harvest, but this version is a little different… Any guesses? 🤔 #CrystalPalace #SecretsOfTheSculptures #Ceres #Chatsworth #FarleysHG

Fancy getting out of Crystal Palace? That’s exactly what the statue Ceres did back in 1957 when she was sold to Roland Penrose and Lee Miller and now stands in the gardens at Farleys House, near Eastbourne. A matching statue, with her left hand still intact, can be found at Chatsworth.

Sedum looking sensational in the autumn sun, spotted by Friday gardeners while getting on with some early autumn tasks — clearing leaves and tackling the weeds. ☀️🌿 A lovely day to be out in the park. 💚

Whose toes are these? The Upper Terrace was home to “twenty-six allegorical statues of the most important commercial and manufacturing countries in the world, and of the chief industrial cities of England and France.” More than a city or country — the toes belong to a continent: South America 👀

Our Secrets of the Sculptures walk on 27 September sold out! 🎟️ So we'll share some snippets. First up: Psyche, behind the bus station. This statue is a copy of a famous sculpture by Pietro Tenerani. Researchers believe many of the park’s statues were made by Francesco Bienaimé a regarded copyist.

What a gorgeous morning to be in Jubilee Gardens. A busy morning for volunteer gardeners, with plenty of deadheading and tidying to do, alongside time to enjoy the beautiful setting and catch up with each other.

🌿 Friday gardeners were taking advantage of the recent rain to deadhead the Stachys, also known as Lamb’s Ear. It’s easy to do: follow the flowered stem down to the base and cut it back with secateurs. This tidies the plant ahead of the changing seasons. 🌱
