he's america's ultimate bogeyman: he has every quality that captain america has but uses them for selfish, narcissistic ends that uses suffering and violence to further his own will and position which is exactly how captain america would act if he acted like america the country

red skull doesn't get enough creedence for being a guy who is fully, to his core, unredeemably evil. sure, he's the spectre of fascism that america cast upon germany and japan so that it could declare it's need to be the ultimate global superpower as defence against tyranny, but that's what works

i try not to use this space as an emotional diary too much, i let that take over my mental health on twitter and it did not do me well, but man i miss feeling creative; i have been so physically and emotionally burnt out all year that i have barely worked on anything at all, and it's getting to me

even as someone who hasn't been particularly thrilled with zach cregger's prior films that's how you make a fucking resident evil movie

give the man blender and a runtime limit of twenty minutes and he could put out some incredible work

the production design and vfx are outstanding and were a northstar for the subsequent decade of grounded sci-fi visual design and concept art, but the script, editing, performances, casting, directing are all incredibly lackluster
010
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
wow, elysium (2013) would have been a really good movie if it was a twenty minute concept short on youtube

i love reed as a character, but having him be the defacto protagonist and having the other four fall into broad supporting roles feels like something waid said he wanted to avoid in taking on the job and has ended up embodying more than any other ff run ive read
010
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
whether it's johnny learning more responsibilities by becoming involved in the ff's business ventures, sue managing her life as wife and mother of the strangest nuclear family of all time, or literally anything involving ben, it's all just slowly been dropped in favour of reed, which blows

which, by and large, is as good as everyone says it is, but after a killer start, i feel like it has been bogged down by story after story about reed facing situations he can't just science his way out of and some really interesting character work for the other four has fallen to the wayside

after rereading hickman and camuncoli's secret warriors (still a killer book, feels like hickman's propensity for operatic staging and meticulous character writing mixed with storytelling through graphic design was gestating over the course of that book) my next stop has been waid & wieringo's f4

one thing about this sheeran thing is it's a really good demonstration of how refusing to pick a side when you have power to do so is absolutely picking a side – and the support acts using their considerably smaller leverage to stand up for something just adds to that

yeah!! i put an intercessor squad in my black templar list and i'm really excited to get this kit and see what i can do with it i've been slowly collecting the mark ii through vi heresy tactical squad kits to kitbash with my crusader squads and i wanna filter that through the entire army
000
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
i actually really like the look of the new intercessors and having the space marines incorporate parts of older marks of armour is something i've been doing with my black templars using the new heresy releases, so i'm excited to see what new bits are in this new kit

oh wow, games workshop announced two (2) space marine boxes and even though a the orks just got a big range refresh and a bunch of new kits, it's the perfect time to be an absolute cunt on social media about how we don't need more space marines!

peter parker has never been defined by poverty; he's been a struggling young adult trying to pay rent, sure, but this feels like people are taking their nostalgia for the raimi movies as gospel he's never even remotely been in poverty in the comics
010
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
what's with this obsession people have about whether or not peter parker is in poverty in brand new day? this feels like an expectation people have put on the movie and are mad at it for not being the movie they made in their head tbh

i work in a modern art gallery and when i tell you how much people (even the most privileged, middle class english people i've ever met) simply do not know how to engage with art as a physical object in space we are not taught how to see, only to watch
010
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
i think optimus versus bonecrusher on the freeway is an all-timer scene and really shows the scope and scale of what it would be like to co-exist with these giant metal death machines and to have one of them love, care for and defend us

fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
i do think of the three parallel narratives between the marines in qatar being chased by scorponok, sam and bumblebee, and the teenie bopper nsa hackers that transfomers 07 would be a stronger movie if it was just a movie about the military and intelligence response to existence of transformers
000
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
remember when they revealed that sam witwicky was the genetic successor of an ancient secret society of transformers allies that goes back to king arthur and merlin?

although i am a huge fan of this video's reading of the bayformers universe being one where the reveal that earth is unicron posits that earth is transformers hell where human society has been groomed and moulded by the fascist autobot empire youtu.be/zVVSl9wtToc?...

i know it's pretty controversial but i still really like transformers (2007), i think it's easily the most cohesive, comprehensive and restrained of the bayformers films it's just a shame about the rest of them

okay, i used unrestful dead in the actual text, but i've definitely used unquiet dead in my worldbuilding notes for hæmír and i really thought i was onto something but every fucking souls-inspired, grim/bleak fantasy rpg or writing has used the same fucking term and i don't know what started it
030
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
at what point did indie rpg and fantasy writers collectively decide to adopt the term "the unquiet dead" when referring to the undead? because i used it in my book hollow betwixt when i wrote it in 2019 and i've seen it in like a dozen works since; did we all just steal it from doctor who?

if i remember correctly, i think the studio wanted more men in the movie so they very hastily threw those scenes together under protest and i think you can tell
110
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
it's a waste of perfectly good sean bean to cut all his scenes from that movie but they're the first thing i'd cut it's very obviously a movie about motherhood and persecution and it constantly cuts back to sean bean just driving around aimlessly

the dog stars is the deep space nine of post-apocalyptic neo-westerns: it doesn't really go anywhere, nothing particularly interesting happens and you're not really sure why you're hanging out with these losers in the first place and i have no idea why it's so weird about native americans
010
fear no man by doing right @inthewakeofdawn.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
went to go see the dog stars and its like if the last of us dropped the zionism and the lone wolf and cub journey for christofascist little house on the prairie with suicidal ideation still the best ridley scott movie of the decade even though it has no narrative drive, no third act and no ending
