Abstract: Montmorillonite (MMT) clay mineral is widely used as filler for several organic coatings.
Its activity is increased by exfoliation via chemical modification to produce nanomaterials. In the
present work, the modification of MMT to form nanogel composites is proposed to increase the
dispersion of MMT into epoxy matrices used to fill cracks and holes produced by the curing exotherms
of epoxy resins. The dispersion of MMT in epoxy improved both the mechanical and anti-corrosion
performance of epoxy coatings in aggressive marine environments. In this respect, the MMT surfaces

chemical structure, nanogel content and the interaction with MMT surfaces on the surface morphology,
surface charges and dispersion in the epoxy matrix were investigated for use as nano-filler for epoxy

Abstract: New pH-sensitive polystyrene, PS, and poly(4-vinylpyridine), P4-VP, nanospheres were
prepared by using surfactant-free method based on soft microgels (Mickering emulsion). The formation
of stable Mickering cyclohexane/water emulsions was investigated by using soft microgel particles of
poly(acrylamide), PAAm, poly(2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid), PAMPS, and sodium
salt of PAMPS, PAMPS-Na, as stabilizers. The dynamic light scattering (DLS), optical microscopy,
and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the optimum conditions and effects
of surrounding solutions on the microgels characteristics and their corresponding Mickering emulsions.
The cyclohexane/water Mickering emulsions stabilized by softer and neutral charged microgels were
considerably more stable under the same conditions. Furthermore, the stimuli-responsive properties
of PAMPS microgel stabilized cyclohexane/water Mickering emulsions suggest the potential utility in
the preparation of PS and P4-VP nanospheres. The effects of pH changes on the morphology, particle
sizes, and surface charges of PS and P4-VP microgels were evaluated to prove the pH-sensitivity ofRetracted article in MDPI's molecules, available at https://www.mdpi.com/1420-3049/19/7/10410

When choosing a statistical test to use, it is vital that the data meets the assumptions required for the test to be appropriate. Checking these assumptions is good practice and allows the researcher to analyse the data in the way that is most appropriate.
