There's a scene in Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cloud (2024) in which you're so locked in on a couple looking at their phone on a bus that the eventual jumpscare that follows is so frightening that it probably belongs in the top half of Kurosawa's career scares. Exceptional film

Easily one of the best written pieces about video games ever but also an incredibly important one that should be considered in future criticism's/understanding's of game design as a whole. Addiction *is* a bad thing, an addicting game isn't a great work of art. Highly recommend!!!

So much of Clint's later stuff is overlooked but it's all great, just some excellent contemporary film-making by one of the most interesting figures in cinema period. The Mule is brilliant yet overlooked, J.Edgar is one of the very best films of the century; give Clint his flowers!!

Like this is Clint at the peak of his powers at *94 years old.* It's not just an alright late stage film by one of America's greatest directors, it's a god damn modern touchstone with a Nicholas Hoult performance that could literally kill me!! It might be the film of the decade so far!!

Been doing a lot of reading, rewatching and thinking in the lead-up to the Oscars and it's still bewildering how Clint Eastwood's Juror #2 isn't an award season favourite - it's so clearly The Best Thing released in 2024 and it's just buried and left to die. It's going to leave a great legacy!!!

A lot of the takes I read in response to that Will Sloan skeet made me think some working critics are merely reactionary. A lot of "You shouldn't work as a critic if you put yourself above certain movies" Do you have no backbone? It's okay to go into a Marvel movie and know exactly what to expect

When I think of my favourite works from 2024, it's hard to think of any that have a moment as special as this one. Evil Does Not Exist have a lot of moments that come close and I'm particularly fond of a few scenes in Megalopolis, but none have felt as emotive as the cave in this film.

ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT (2024, Puyal Kapadia). One of the best looking films out there but also one who's inspirations are so apparent. Felt a lot of French New Wave in here, as well as nods to Akerman (I thought a LOT about News From Home) and Edward Yang. This scene in particular is so special

David Lynch really was the greatest artist of our time and the perfect man for one to love cinema through. No cynicism, no irony; just pure love for his works and the medium he lived in. Irony is a deadly disease that will kill all of us one day - that's what Lynch means to me.

i hope Stan wins best actor tbh - it was a little concerning when he was seemingly getting blacklisted because the academy was too scared to talk about it (Which was odd, because again it's not that risky in it's condemnation) but i'm glad the guilt trip of a campaign worked

it's not the biggest political statement (it should be!) but it's absolutely a condemnation that exists outside of the spectrum of common liberal critiques. it honestly might have come out at the wrong time; it feels like a biopic from *after* trump died!

it looks great and i sort of refute and claims of it being too ridiculous. it's gradual rise of Stan's performance as Trump becoming so recognisable to what he is today is genuinely terrifying. at some point it sneaks up on you that he's sort of Become The Beast and it works great

really coming around to The Apprentice as being pretty great. i enjoyed it on first viewing but on reflection it creates this really fun and intoxicating vibe while also having Seb Stan and Jeremy Strong give insane performances as two very evil people.

i'd be willing to argue that the best time to talk about games from 2024 isn't even at the end of 2025, but probably at the end of 2029!! i know this won't ever happen at The Game Awards, but it's something i'd like to see a concentrated effort behind (rather than a fun gimmick for a writers room)

of course TGA works overtime as a promotional arm for games studios but it doesn't make much logical sense for an artform with so much time commitment. you have to spend like 1000 hours to build a concise list of games from any given year, an extra 1000 if you want to discuss them meaningfully
