My wife has been so excited to see Verity. Every day this week, she's been asking "when can we see Verity?" "what time are the Verity showings?" 🙂 Not going to mention that reviews are a bit middling because it's really fun to see the enthusiasm. She usually doesn't latch onto new releases this way.

@tcgs.co In this week's podcast, as Dave was introducing Well Dweller, I kept hearing "World Weather". Was very confused for a bit.

Upcoming game Armatus just seems to star Specter Knight. Like, it's just him. I hope they have permission.

I've never felt like more of a fake gamer than when playing 868-BACK. I just find it incredibly difficult even when I'm not taking undue risks. Elegantly designed; not a fault of the game, but makes me feel like a toddler at the adults table, in way over my head like games usually don't any more.

Amused by them including shows that are, in total, about half bad, supported by the strength of their good seasons (Arrested Development, Black Mirror) but then going out of their way to specify "True Detective BUT ONLY SEASON ONE".

I want to be optimistic about the new Dreamworks film Forgotten Island, but I can't get over how the trailer ends with a complete "sucks all air out of the room" clunker of a joke (the "who let the dogs out" bit that goes on forever). If that's the big trailer closer moment, I'm worried.

I don't usually have a lot of overlap with my wife's music picks, but the new Carly Rae Jepsen album is dreamy, drowsy, and cool in a way I'm digging so far.

Can I ask for specific music recommendations? I like music that is somewhat droning / atmospheric but also grating and able to produce a low-level anxiety. I like when instrument solos sound like the screams of dying electronics.

I don't really understand the purpose for a Professor Layton remake. Surely the puzzle minigames themselves work just fine in their original format, and the bits of story and cinematics surrounding them is a bit more incidental to the package than, say, an Ace Attorney.

A Hulu commercial said, "in a survey, 96% of people said they would recommend their friends talk to a doctor about Botox", and that is such an open-ended way to phrase it. Generously, they're trying to make it sound as if 96% of friends recommend Botox to their friends...

Before the modern age of genAI material flooding our world with potentially endless floods of slop, computer-generated writing was something of an amusing fascination. The first computer-generated book was 1984’s “The Policeman’s Beard Is Half Constructed”. An excerpt:

I hope back into Crimson Desert every once in a while, and it always strikes me -- there are many good ideas in there, but it has such a bad habit of turning every quest that would be great as, like, a four-step process and drag them into a 25-step process instead.
