Europe's landscapes and seascapes are under increasing pressure. Renewable energy, food production, urban development, infrastructure, and biodiversity conservation all compete for the same limited space. How can we balance these demands while safeguarding nature? 🌍 #INSPIREProject #Biodiversity

In link.springer.com/article/10.1... we used Sicily (the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea) as a case study to demonstrate a complementary approach on how to map the footprint of small-scale fisheries when tracking data are unavailable

The first study of the EU #biodiversity policy mix across terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems shows: 5 years after the #EuropeanGreenDeal, there's a stronger cross-sector & cross-realm integration of biodiversity policy. That's important, but now needs effective implementation👉 t.ly/GHoLh

Rivers and seas are connected—so #conservation should be too. 🌍 Our just published research shows that protecting nature works best when we account for how species move and how pollution spreads across ecosystems. 👉 doi.org/10.1111/1365... #Biodiversity #Ocean #Freshwater #ConservationPlanning 🌐🌍🧪

Our study investigated the functional diversity of coastal fish communities across habitats in the Mediterranean Sea. It demonstrates that sandy habitats contribute disproportionately to functional beta diversity in Mediterranean infralittoral ecosystems authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S...
This graphical abstract shows three marine Mediterranean habitats (sandy bottoms, rocky reefs and Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows. Each of them has a different fish community. We also mention the functional trait metrics we used to assess the functional diversity of the fish community in the 3 different habitats; these metrics are: Functional Richness, Rao's quadratic entropy, functional divergence, functional b-diversity
