Egg Nebula by Hubble. Processed by @Tho_Carp www.flickr.com/photos/19746... 🔭 🧪

This Hubble Space Telescope image shows the Egg Nebula (also known as CRL 2688), a preplanetary nebula with a distinct, bipolar structure. The image is dominated by a bright central region, shaped like an elongated hourglass or butterfly, with luminous arcs and knots emanating outward. These structures are created by the high-speed stellar winds and jets ejected by the dying star at the nebula's center. The object glows with a cool orange and white hue, speckled with bright points of light that are likely background stars and dense knots within the nebula. Dark, dusty lanes are interspersed within the glowing regions, adding a stark contrast to the intricate and dynamic structure of the nebula. The entire scene is set against the black backdrop of space, emphasizing the isolation and brilliance of the nebula.

It’s 1999/2000 and I’ve got a temporary tattoo on my forehead and I’m absolutely on demon time. #y2k
