Growing Up Amid Conflict: Implications of the Developmental Peace Model.

Every year, 420 million children are affected by conflict, and over half of all children experience violence. It is clear that youth are affected by war and settings of persistent societal violence.

However, young people are not just powerless victims or perpetrators of violence — they are agents of change.

Adverse events → positive change.

The Developmental Peace Model outlines how children's helping behaviors can create peace.

Youth Peacebuilding.

Predictors: Conflict/violence exposure, family dynamics, social identity development, empathy & moral reasoning, intergroup contract

Outcomes: Prosocial behaviors, improved intergroup relations, youth civic engagement, collective action, resilience & well-being
