Maybe a wee bit of miscalculation by David Eby in calling the snap election

Whelp. Disappointing end to the game but feeling positive about the #NHLJets Nice energy. Sharper than they've been to start the season the past few years. PP was good. Perfetti looked good. #GoJetsGo

Some people will cheer the struggles of the PCs, but every democracy needs a viable opposition. What we need are the PCs to get their act together and provide one. 1/2

I grew these peppers because I thought it would be fun to grow peppers but I don't typically eat peppers. What should I do with them? I would call them a 4 or 5 out of 10 on the spicy meter.

It's always fascinating to watch Dan try to be critical of the NDP government. "Detailed" and "comprehensive" but "shallow" "There’s nothing bad about Manitoba’s new net zero action plan." But .. Ya. Anyhow, he does make some good points including the lack of initiative on transit. Worth reading.

This Osborne Street safety study is going to fail because it is looking for "low-cost improvements that can be installed quickly" when a proper (but not necessarily cheap) long term solution is needed www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews...

Things the PM could consider as this escalates: go after DT's billionaire buddies 1) remove the tax deductibility of advertising on US media platforms like Google 2) reimpose direct tax on said platforms 3) put strict conditions on Canadian data housed in US data centres 4) AI governance rules ...

Two things: 1) This is absolutely the right call. I don't know the details, but being pressured into accepting a bad deal is not an option. I might feel differently if I were in an industry where my job was on the line, but the PM has to do what is best for the nation as a whole. ... 1/2

This should be required reading for everybody. From The Economist. I believe you can create a free account to read a limited no of articles. I will add alt.text in three segments as it exceeds to character limit for an image..

BY INVITATION Nimrod Novik
The Economist May 16th 2026
Settler violence is undermining Israel's security, its moral fabric and its global standing
IN BIOLOGY CLASS we were taught that evolution takes genera- Ltions. A genetic mutation, by contrast, can occur within a single generation. Last week, during a tour of the West Bank, I witnessed such a mutation taking shape. I saw a young Palestinian man—for his and his family’s security, let us call him Ali-who had never concerned himself with politics, never joined any organisation, never demonstrated for national rights, never held a weapon. I saw a man wholly focused on earning a living and providing for his family, now on the verge of becoming a fighter, perhaps even a shahid (martyr).
Even though nothing in his words or conduct betrayed any 1n- tention on his part to change course, hearing him speak—quietly chillingly calm—and seeing the helplessness, I could not but fear for the next chapter of his life.

During the visit I met others too. It is quite possible that some of what I attribute to Ali, I heard from them. However, Ali is mere- ly a parable for what is unfolding a 40-minute drive from home,.

He is a young man in his late twenties, tall, athletic-looking, with a direct gaze and neither arrogance nor submissiveness Someone who’s straightforward, who doesn’t beat around the bush-what we Israelis call tachles, The moment he opened his mouth, it became clear to me that he was’ also articulate, intelli- gent and sober-minded.

He was born ten months after his 13-year-old brother was shot and killed by our forces. Ali was named after him, The family lives on a plot of land they have owned for generations and makes—or more precisely, made-its living from herding sheep

There is no more precise Hebrew expression for their home and surroundings than kivsat ha-rash—a poor man’s only lamb, It is half ruin, half tent, surrounded by ageing, dilapidated equipment.

Reading an article about Rio De Janeiro: "All of Rio's elected governors in the 21st century have been jailed or impeached on charges related to corruption " I guess something to consider if you're disappointed in the quality of the candidates for Mayor in Winnipeg?

A couple things: 1. both were good choices with similar capabilities, unlike the fighter jet replacement competition where there are stark differences between the two contenders 2. It's almost shocking to see the a big procurement decision being reasonably-managed and made in a timely manner.
