If power was disconnected, contact AES and they will determine whether the home can be safely re-energized. If not, AES will provide instructions on the steps needed to safely restore power.

🚨 An update from MESA (6:30 PM, 8/18/26): Impacted residents are eager to return to their homes. As of 6:30pm, standing water remains in areas of Ravenswood and east of Keystone Avenue between 78th and 80th streets, making it unsafe to enter those areas.

Due to high water, AES is now surveying the Ravenswood neighborhood. Power may need to be temporarily shut off as a safety precaution. Residents should keep devices charged, prepare for a possible outage, and monitor all official updates.

The City is transitioning families from the Broad Ripple Family Center to the Noble Shelter at 2406 N. Tibbs Ave. Families can seek shelter there, and pets are welcome! Operations at the Broad Ripple Family Center will be phased out by 10 p.m. tonight.

DPW data currently indicates peak water levels will hold for a few hours before the floodwaters begin to recede. During this period, Engineering will closely monitor our flood-control infrastructure (levees, control gates, etc.) to ensure it continues to operate as anticipated.

The latest flood update (TIME: 7:53 PM) from DPW: Staff continues to monitor water levels along the White River Corridor, including potential downstream impacts. At this time, DPW Stormwater Engineering’s data shows we have reached peak flooding levels on the north side of Marion Co.

The Indianapolis Fire Department is sharing photos taken in Ravenswood. Anyone remaining in Ravenswood, Rocky Ripple, & other impacted areas need to evacuate now. The city is experiencing its most severe flooding in 30+ years, and conditions are shifting rapidly.

Hinkle Fieldhouse is not being used as a shelter. If residents need a place to stay overnight, they should go to the Red Cross shelter at 8401 Westfield Blvd. Those with pets can go to the Broad Ripple Family Center (1426 Broad Ripple Ave.) and connect with additional resources there.

DPW is also monitoring Westfield Blvd and weighing a potential closure. 96th & Brandt Rd. has been closed due to flooding resulting in road failure. Residents are encouraged to avoid the area. This is not a complete list of impacted roadways. If a roadway is flooded, DO NOT attempt to traverse.

The Indiana State Fairgrounds are currently CLOSED. The Fairgrounds advises those on the grounds to seek shelter in the nearest building. If you are away from the Fairgrounds, please wait to arrive until the storm passes. Entry gates are currently closed until the weather clears.

URGENT UPDATE from DPW: Residents of Rocky Ripple are advised to evacuate. The 52nd St. flood gate (circled in green) is expected to close at 2 a.m. The 53rd St. gate is being monitored; should a closure be necessary, it would likely be in the early hours of the morning.
