The plant you can see in this picture had CO2 emissions of around 300-400 thousand tons annually up until 2014. But, according to an EU emission database, it had no emissions for the three following years and only around 1/1000th of the emissions in later years. 🔌💡 /thread 🧵

In a recent Newsletter about Ørsted's decision to cancel a factory for green Methanol, I mentioned that there were calls for a much more ambitions regulation, including by the shipping lobby organization ECSA. Make of that what you will, but that statement is no longer on their webpage... 🧵

Denmark or Switzerland are, by any reasonable standard, rich countries. Their energy consumption is low - less than half of what the US or Canada consume per person. While a strong correlation between energy & income exists for low-income countries, it is almost nonexistent for high-income countries

Mazzotti expects that even with optimistic projections, the combined contribution of CCS and CDR technologies will remain a small part of the climate solution. The majority of emission reductions need to come from decreasing fossil fuel production. Yet the oil and gas companies developing CCS technologies seem to have no serious plans to do so.
