Indivisible Stanislaus would like to thank the many stakeholders who helped make No Kings II a success on Saturday, October 18th.

No Kings II was a peaceful, well-organized event that drew strong visibility at the McHenry and Briggsmore intersection in Modesto. Throughout the day, community members stopped by, drove past, or gathered near local businesses to see what was happening, ensuring our message rang clear: America has never had, and never will have, a dictator or king.

We extend our gratitude to the organizations and volunteers who co-hosted this event with us, including the Modesto Progressive Democrats, Central Valley Democratic Club, Stanislaus County Democratic Central Committee, and 50501. Your collaboration and dedication were essential to the event’s success.

Special thanks also go to the Modesto Progressive Democrats, Central Valley Democratic Club, and NAACP Stanislaus/Modesto for leading efforts in support of Yes on 50. 📢 Indivisible Stanislaus Statement on Modesto’s Mask Ordinance (Modesto Municipal Code 4-23.01, Section 13)

Indivisible Stanislaus calls on the City of Modesto to repeal Modesto Municipal Code 4-23.01, Section 13, commonly known as the “mask ordinance.”

As organizers of the No Kings! event, which coincided with CVBIPOCC’s ICE Out protest, we witnessed firsthand the heavy-handed enforcement of this ordinance by Modesto Police. The tactics employed, such as masked officers detaining individuals and loading them into unmarked vehicles, mirrored the methods used by ICE and created a climate of fear and intimidation.

Whatever the original intent of the ordinance may have been, its current application poses a serious threat to constitutionally protected speech. It has become a tool of suppression, especially alarming in a moment when our First Amendment rights and our democracy are under direct assault by figures like Donald Trump and Rep. Tom McClintock.

Ordinances that can be used to silence dissent have no place in a free society and must be repealed.

We are deeply grateful to the 4,500 attendees who joined us on that June day and maintained a peaceful presence despite attempts to provoke conflict. We especially thank the ICE Out organizers and attendees for their solidarity and participation in what became the largest political gathering in Stanislaus County history.

At a time like this, the suppression of speech—especially dissent—is unacceptable.

We urge the Modesto City Council to repeal this ordinance without delay.

Statement from Indivisible Stanislaus re: the Outrageous Acts of Political Violence in Minnesota

What was meant to be a historic day of protest has become a day of mourning.

Over 11 million people joined No Kings! protests across the country, including more than 4,000 of us here in Modesto, rejecting Trump’s taxpayer-funded, poorly attended birthday military parade.

But overnight, a different kind of history was made—one drenched in political violence.

Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot in their home. Just over an hour later, former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were assassinated.

The suspect—still at large—is a far-right extremist. Police say he targeted No Kings! protests and Democratic leaders across the state. His vehicle contained MAGA propaganda, multiple No Kings! flyers, and addresses of elected Democratic officials.

This was not random. This was political.

When a president fans the flames of violence, someone’s home will eventually burn. When you spend years targeting Democratic leaders, sowing division, stoking hatred, and calling for revenge—this is the inevitable result.

President Trump and his Republican enablers—including Rep. Tom McClintock—have blood on their hands.

We mourn with Minnesota. We demand justice for Rep. Hortman and healing for Sen. Hoffman.

And we demand that Rep. McClintock publicly denounce the violent extremism Trump has cultivated.

This is not normal. This is not acceptable. And if we want to live in a democracy, this cannot stand.

We're waiting.
