And if Iris was right about what she was suggestin’ then…that meant…

Gina took a long hard look at Susato, as if she could read in those pretty, big eyes of hers some secret that Gina had never thought to guess. And maybe, just maybe, she *could* actually see it; not in her eyes, but in the way her complexion had reddened, and in the slight tremble of her fingers against the curve of her mouth. Gina knew how to read people, had even before she’d made Inspector, and if she was readin’ Susato right, then…

Summary:
Maybe, there was another universe where Mia remembered to check the time. Where she was a confident new lawyer instead of nearly panicking at the thought of her upcoming trial. Where she locked away the Fawles files with plenty of time to walk through the doors and see Lana at a booth alone, tucked into a dark corner illuminated only by the string of lights above the bar.

Maybe in that world, where it was just the two of them, Mia would find that neither of them had changed at all. Maybe that was the world where Lana would lean in as if no time had passed, and Mia would remember how it felt to be kissed by someone she admired, and revered, and *wanted.*

Maybe, maybe, maybe. There were probably a thousand other choices that Mia could’ve made to change this night, only, she hadn’t, so here she was, the distance between her and Lana physical and painful and all too real.
