IMVA has been working alongside local venues for 4 years to create more appropriate settings for sound in the central city & ensure that live music is built into the city’s future. PC21 is a meaningful step towards a supported & thriving local live music scene & you can help get it across the line

Independent Music Venues Aotearoa (IMVA) is calling for industry, government, local councils, music fans and communities to work together on sustainable funding and policy that recognises venues as essential cultural infrastructure.

The recent closure announcement from Neck of the Woods is a reminder that this isn’t an isolated issue. While community fundraising can help in a crisis, it’s not a sustainable solution for the sector.

Independent music venues are the backbone of live music in Aotearoa. They're where artists get a start, communities come together & new music is discovered. But independent venues are under increasing pressure & without long-term support we risk losing spaces that nurture the next gen of NZ music 🧵

Reb Fountain initiated the Save Our Venues campaign, and reflects, “I really wanted to plant a seed that would express that the creative arts are very valuable in their own right...” 1/2 @imvaotearoa.bsky.social audioculture.co.nz/articles/sav...

From Save Our Venues to Independent Music Venues Aotearoa it’s been a journey (and only five years?!). Big thanks to Audioculture and Gareth Shute for telling our story, chatting to those who were there in the beginning - and the reinforcements who joined the fight for grassroots venues.
