Heretics of Dune from 1983, or the world of 2026, you decide!
A photo of a quote from the book Heretics of Dune, the kinds preceding the chapter:

> Quite naturally, holders of power wish to suppress 'wild' research. Unrestricted questing after knowledge has a long history of producing unwanted competition. The powerful want a 'safe line of investigation' which will develop only those products and ideas that can be controlled and, most important, that will allow the larger part of the benefits to be captured by inside investors. Unfortunately, a random universe full of relative variables does not ensure such a 'safe line of investigations'. -- Assessment of Ix, Bene Gesserit Archives

Upgraded openZFS to be able to update the Linux kernel on a lil' server, it flagged that there are new features I could enable on my pool, an it was hese draid_failure_domains, seem genuinely useful! Thanks Seagate! No thinking whether it is something to […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]
Screenshot of the "draid_failure_domain" manual page:

draid_failure_domains
             GUID com.seagate:draid_failure_domains
             DEPENDENCIES draid
             READ-ONLY COMPATIBLE no

This feature enables use of failure domains in draid vdev type. Failure domains allow for an entire set of devices that belong to a domain to fail without taking the pool offline. Devices that are likely to fail together due to sharing a common component, such as an enclosure, HBA, or SAS expander, are good candidates to form a failure domain. For example, on a setup with several enclosures the user could define the failure domains to be the set of devices in each enclosure, then the failure groups span the enclosures. Or in other words, the dRAID is arranged such that the i-th device in every failure group belongs to i-th enclosure. This will allow tolerating the failure of the whole enclosure. The size of the failure group is equal to the number of failure domains, and it cannot be less than the size of the redundancy group (parity + data + spares). This feature becomes active when creating a pool which uses the draid vdev type with failure domains configured, or when adding a new draid vdev with failure domains to an existing pool.
