What a coincidence 🤔 .... .... just hours after South African jurist and former ICC judge Navi Pillay was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her work promoting peace and international law - the US government imposed sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court.

Well the pundits kind of seemed certain Bolsonaro II wouldn't have much of chance but I thought hardcore supporters of his father aided by social media might swing things. And this is probably what has happened now - social media reels and edited videos are powerful electoral tools nowadays.

A tenant is being evicted and stands unhappily in his garden before this takes place, however according to the AI generated text in the new story - he's gardening. There seems to be an increasing reliance on AI to do stuff like this and it often misinterprets the image and misses the point.
A picture of Ritchie Wood, a tenant, standing in his garden looking glum with arms crossed prior to his eviction.

The AI generated text says:

"An individual, dressed in casual attire and donning sunglasses, is engaged in the act of trimming a dense, verdant shrubbery, positioned in front of a building with a brick facade and a window adorned with white frames.

It's interesting how the (accurate) billionaire cartoon bears somewhat of a resemblance to the feudal structure of Mediæval England. Billionaires being the modern equivalent of Nobles and clergy with only the nominated ruler above them.
Diagram of the feudal system, arranged as a four‑tier pyramid showing how mediaeval society was structured from top to bottom.

At the top, the smallest purple section contains a crown icon and is labelled King.

Below that, a pink tier labelled Nobles and clergy includes an image of gold coins, signalling wealth, land ownership, and the Church’s influence.

The next, larger yellow tier shows a mounted knight and is labelled Knights, vassals and landlords — the warrior class and land‑holding intermediaries who served nobles and protected territory.

At the base, the largest blue section shows a simply dressed figure and is labelled Serfs, peasants and tenants, representing the majority of the population who worked the land and supported the entire hierarchy.

The strange thing about Trump is how much of his words and actions fit in with the sort of thing George Orwell wrote about. But it reveals not only does he thinks his supporters are stupid but how dictatorial he is in nature - luckily though his powers are constrained by a democratic framework.
’You are free to be a drunkard, an idler, a coward, a backbiter, a fornicator; but you are not free to think for yourself.’

Nepal's PM is quite correct but also, over a year ago - a glacier collapse in Switzerland should have been a wakeup call. I fear that people still aren't learning the lessons here, this shouldn't be treated as a freak incident in Nepal but a taste of what likely to be much worse.

What's got lost in all the media coverage is what Polanski had actually been talking about. He'd been talking about datacentres, clean energy, heatwaves and excess deaths over the summer. Instead Sadiq Khan used the opportunity to flip the debate from AI datacentres to Polanski's Urdu proficiency.
Clean energy and water is essential for Londoners. We know that the climate crisis is getting worse, we've seen the heatwaves and the deaths we've had this summer, nearly 3,000 people estimated by the Health Security Agency.

You mentioned datacentres there, and that's what I want to talk about today. We know that the Government considers datacentres as essential infrastructure, critical infrastructure. But for most people, critical infrastructure would be water, electricity, and hospitals.
We also know that the water industry bodies have said they're concerned about the use of water, and also when we look at one data centre of one gigawatts, it could use as much electricity as two million homes.

So my question is, would you be prepared to say no to a datacentre if it didn't secure clean water and energy supply?

I do get the impression that if there had been another London by-election before Starmer stood down that Polanski would have stood a very good chance of being elected. But with Andy Burnham as leader, the party is polling better and not forgetting Zia Yusuf's racist attack on the Labour candidate.
