Been reading Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle this week. Utterly bleak, so profoundly infuriating. I encourage everyone revisiting classics like 1984, Handmaid’s Tale, animal farm, brave new world, etc to give this one a look-see.

The headline should indicate that the overwhelming majority of that ‘over 60 million’ went to Steven’s. As in over 60 million for her and 4 million for him. Yay citizens united that allowed for super pacs and unlimited donations that don’t need to be disclosed.
Graph showing Spending by Outside Groups in Michigan's Senate Primary
Outside groups have spent more than $60 million in the state's Democratic primary. The AIPAC-affiliated United Democracy Project, which is backing Stevens, has spent far more than anyone else.

Chart shows groups benefitting Steve’s having donated $69,097,935 while groups benefitting El-Sayed having donated $4,631,742, or 14% of her haul.

Now do deaths. It is shocking to me that despite learning that significantly less people (mostly our kids and grandparents) died in the US from the flu while we were all wearing masks, no one bothers to wear a mask.

For years I’ve made socca, thin chickpea flour pancakes, top w/hummus and fresh tomatoes, arugula, olives, yum! Now I’ve tried farinata, same recipe, started stovetop. Browned onions, poured batter in hot oiled pan, topped with onions, rosemary and kalamata. #vegan #glutenfree #veganfood

Toppings are just that, on top. I think I would try stirring them into the batter next time or pushing them deeper. Would also try using veg to create a scene or something.

Just learned about #TextileTuesday so I’ll share my current project: DIY beeswax food wraps as gifts It’s cold/rainy, but I’m grateful to be snugged up with a nice fire and melting wax to play with. House smells divine. Reclaimed some dirty pastilles too for the next batch. Yay! #craftsky
Mis en place for the project. A wooden tabletop laid out with a scale, black silicone tray for 6 large ice cubes, two blocks of beeswax, a small brown bottle with a dropper containing jojoba oil, a small white bowl with gold leaf design containing pine resin pastilles, a double boiler already coated in wax from my last project. A white mug of tea with bees and hexagons in various browns, yellows and oranges and a yellow inside. And various piles of fabric in different color ways. A red check, turquoise checkerboard with red buttons, black with white flower and yellow bees, yellow with little bees and their trails despite all over, black with Halloween google eyes and a vintage looking ticking with red fliers in lines down it surrounded by a greenish yellow bar on each side. Reminded me of my grandmother’s apron. A stainless steel double boiler fills the frame, containing the two blocks of beeswax melting, pine resin pastilles, the melted ones of which glisten like Smaug’s gold and with a tablespoon of jojoba being poured in onto the beeswax. After I’d coated all the wraps I could, I grabbed a jar of old pastilles into which lots of dirty stuff had fallen. So while I had the double boiler going, i tossed that in. once melted, i poured it into the silicone mold filtering it through cheesecloth laid overtop. these are the resulting bars of clean wax ready to use.

Gochujang miso sauce on baked tofu bits and roasted cauliflower with coconut rice. High praise from the 20yo Queen of Snark: wow, this is a restaurant quality meal I wasn’t sure at first if that was a compliment or not 😝 #Vegan #glutenfree
White plate with a sprig of white, rust and blue flowers down one side holds a generous portion of a very attractive beige coconut rice (used veggie broth and tamari to season so, yeah, beige) and a more robustly ruddy brown tangle of baked torn tofu bits with roasted cauliflower and one lone roasted broccoli (I ate so much ‘testing’ I felt guilty taking any more) in a sauce made with gochujang, miso, tamari, broth, garlic, ginger and more than the hint I’d wanted of maple syrup. And corn starch to thicken.
