Microwave-assisted synthesis of activated carbon from aerobic combustion of cotton in sesamee oil for high performance supercapacitor - Discover Electrochemistry
We report on the microwave aided activation of activated carbon (AC) prepared from aerobic combustion of cotton in sesamee oil. It has been revealed that microwave aided activation at 110 °C in convection mode for 5 min improve the porosity and surface area of prepared AC. The produced AC exhibited the surface area of 686 m2/g with total pore volume of 0.44 cm3/g which is higher than bare carbon without activation (surface area of 92.5 m2/g and total pore volume of 0.13 cm3/g). Therefore, the prepared AC-based device exhibited an impressive energy density of 33.68 Wh/kg with specific capacitance of 485 F/g at 1 A/g. In addition, the series combination of three devices demonstrated the stable operation up to 3 V and glow the red LED for 65 s. These results exhibiting that microwave assisted activation method could be beneficial in terms of ease of process and time/energy saving in compare to the conventional activation process at high temperature to produced high quality carbon materials for supercapacitor applications.

Eco-sustainable cellulose/polyaniline/GO@TiO2 bio-nanocomposites for efficient dye removal from wastewater - International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology
The textile industry continues to generate wastewater containing high levels of toxic dyes, posing serious environmental risks. In this work, eco-friendly cellulose/polyaniline/graphene oxide@TiO2 nanoparticles adduct (GO@TiO2-NPs) bio-nanocomposites sorbents were synthesized via in situ polymerization for the efficient removal of Acid Orange 7 (AO7) dye from aqueous solutions. The as-prepared sorbents were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and scan electron microscope. The results illustrated successful incorporation of polyaniline and GO@TiO2-NPs into the cellulose matrix, to form bio-nanocomposites with improved crystallinity, surface morphology, and thermal stability. In addition, the adsorption performance was systematically investigated as a function of contact time, pH, sorbent dosage, and initial dye concentration. Notably, the sorbent with 10% GO@TiO2-NPs achieved a remarkable 88.8% removal efficiency for AO7 dye, underscoring its potential as a highly effective adsorbent. The kinetic models reveal that intra-particle diffusion and surface adsorption are important adsorption processes. The maximal adsorption capacity of 60 mg/g is shown by the Langmuir model, which best fits the experimental results. These results suggest a physisorption-dominated mechanism, highlighting the potential of the bio-nanocomposite sorbent in mitigating water pollution. This research provides a promising outlook for the future of efficient wastewater treatment.

Bacterial Cellulose/Polypyrrole Aerogel for the Efficient Removal of Organic and Inorganic Water Contaminants
In this work, in situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of bacterial cellulose (BC) hydrogels was utilized to prepare BC/polypyrrole (PPy) aerogels. Various analytical techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies, and BET specific surface area analysis, were employed to characterize the BC/PPy composite. Raman and FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of doped PPy that uniformly coated the BC fibers. BC/PPy has demonstrated excellent adsorption capability of organic (Reactive Black 5, RB) and inorganic (hexavalent chromium ions, Cr(VI)) wastewater contaminants in single and binary solute systems. Various parameters, e.g., contact time, pH, and adsorbent dosage, were evaluated in batch sorption experiments. The adsorption processes were found to obey pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm models. Vibrational spectroscopy indicates that the Cr(VI) adsorption involves redox reactions, while RB adsorption occurs through ion exchange. The maximum adsorption capacity of 485.4 and 130.7 mg g–1 of Cr(VI) and RB was achieved at pH 2 and 4, respectively. After five adsorption/desorption cycles, BC/PPy maintained removal efficiencies of 92.1 and 97.7% for Cr(VI) and RB, respectively. This research demonstrates the cost-effectiveness, reusability, and sustainability of BC/PPy as an adsorbent for removing pollutants from wastewater.

Ultrathin Electrospun Poly(γ-benzyl-l-glutamate) Nanofibrous Membranes for Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cell Cultivation
This study presents the preparation of ultrathin poly(γ-benzyl-l-glutamate) nanofibrous membranes (PBLG-NfMs), approximately 5.1 μm thick, engineered as scaffolds for retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell cultivation. PBLG-NfMs exhibited high porosity and large pores. To enhance bioactivity, the membranes were modified using air plasma treatment to improve wettability, followed by modification with fibronectin, a key extracellular matrix protein that promotes cell adhesion and migration. Fibronectin adsorption and its uniform distribution across the nanofiber network were proven by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence measurements. In vitro studies have demonstrated that such synthetic poly(α-amino acid)-based membranes effectively support RPE cell viability, adhesion, and proliferation. Furthermore, immunocytochemical staining confirmed the expression of RPE-specific markers ZO-1 and RPE65, indicating preserved epithelial phenotype and functionality. These results highlight the potential of fibronectin-coated PBLG-NfMs as promising scaffolds for eye tissue engineering.
