So, #jazzsky informs me that it’s Eddie Gómez’s birthday🎂 I’ve always loved Gómez's extended bass solo that introduces: Chick Corea: “Dear Alice” (The Mad Hatter, 1978) And Steve Gadd’s drumming is astounding. w/ Joe Farrell (flute) & Gayle Moran (vocal) #jazz #EddieGomez #ChickCorea #SteveGadd

At Mar-a-Lago, Trump promised 20 Big Oil leaders that if they collectively contributed $1B to his campaign, he would overturn Biden’s environmental rules. One big payoff: completely dismantling the Endangered Species Act’s habitat protections, which will lead to species extinctions. (free article)

Trump Has Made it Legal to Destroy Endangered Species’ Habitats

By redefining the meaning of “harm” in the Endangered Species Act, the administration is giving big corporations a gift they have long demanded.

. . . Jean-Luc compositions performed included ”Imaginary Voyage,” “Renaissance,” and “New Country,” as well as Zappa’s “King Kong,” and Chick Corea’s “Armando’s Rhumba."

It was a great show! 2 hours of music covering a pretty good survey of the broad swath of Jean-Luc’s music. Several different groups of Berklee faculty, students, & guest artists, including a trio, cello octet w/ double bass and drums, a chamber orchestra w/ solo strings, and two other small groups.

So, #Berklee just gave #Jean-LucPonty a lifetime achievement award. Jean-Luc is watching by live stream and had a statement thanking Berklee, saying he regretted not being able to attend in person, noting Berklee grads he’s worked with. Oh, and it’s also Jean-Luc’s birthday. 🎂 #jazzsky #jazz

Closure is the apotheosis of the wreckage & chaos created in the less than 2 yrs since Trump’s takeover of the Center, once a bipartisan global model of public access to the arts, now subject to the whims of Trump & his hand-picked board. As a result, audiences & donors fled, its finances cratered.🎁

This isn’t just about NIH grants. It’s about whose health gets studied—and whose gets ignored. Defund research on women and minority communities. Weaken the safety net. Politicize which science gets funded. Different policies. Same consequence: the people who already have the least lose the most.
