ILRC staff attorney, Kari Guajajara, was invited by the JUPAU Indigenous Association to visit the Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau Indigenous Territory. Kari engaged in discussions on the right to territory of the Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau (Jupaú), Amondawa, Oro Win, Cabixi, and isolated Indigenous peoples.

Today, September 26, marks Native American Day, a regionally recognized holiday that celebrates Native American heritage. The Center's home state of Montana joins California, Washington, Nevada, South Dakota, and Tennessee in celebrating Native communities.

Earlier this week, we announced the addition of Caroline LaPorte to our legal team, who will focus on working with Safe Women Strong Nations. This project partners with Native women’s organizations and Indian and Alaska Native nations to end violence against Native women and children.

In the United States, violence against indigenous women has reached unprecedented levels on tribal lands and in Alaska Native villages.

The Center’s Safe Women, Strong Nations project partners with Native women’s organizations and Indian and Alaska Native nations to end violence against Native women and children.The image has a red background and reads:

raises awareness to gain strong federal action to end violence against Native women and children;
 provides legal advice to Native women’s organizations and Indian nations on ways to restore tribal criminal authority and to preserve tribal civil authority; and

The Indian Law Resource Center (ILRC), in partnership with the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Amazon (AIDESEP) and the Coordination of the Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB), is leading the Indigenous Lands Initiative Project (ILI Project) to address the lack of secure collective land rights, one of the main causes of poverty and exclusion of Indigenous communities

The ILI Project seeks to protect these communities from illegal invasions, mining, drug trafficking, and destructive commercial activities that threaten their territories, culture, and ways of life.
