Gorgeous day in San Francisco. But also: loving Analogue Pro Camera app and the filmic quality of photos it produces…

I sewed this cool quilted bag! It turned out great and it’s going to make for a good gift for a special person. And best of all, it was all done with scrap fabric! #sewing #menwhosew #sewist #garmentsewing #sewsky
Front side of a round bag made with scrap fabric that has been quilted into a star pattern. The background is bright yellow, and the star various shades of blue. It has an adjustable strap made of webbing.Back side of the same bag. The pattern here has horizontal fat stripes alternating between yellow and three shades of blueI am modeling the bag, showing the front side, sling across one shoulder And now I am modeling it showing the back side, which has an external pocket. My hand is in the pocket and for some reason I have a goofy expression on my face

What is the fabric is you don’t mind me asking? It looks light and cool but not stretchy, which would make it easy to sew for me… ☺️ Also I think your doggo should be in all your photo shoots 😄

If you wanted to you could use the twin needle setup for the whole shirt, but I prefer the look of the “regular” stretch stitch for the other seams, and just use the twin needle for topstitching the hems and collar. It’s worth having the needle and it comes in handy for hemming pants too!
120 2
Luigi Anzivino @ilmungo.bsky.social · 29/05/2025
For the hems and collar I switched to a stretch twin needle set up (like in the photo). This works *great* for knits, and the stitch is stretchy so it will tolerate my head going through the collar. I actually had to adjust the tension up a bit with this setup.

For the regular seams I used a stretch needle and a stretch stitch — it looks like number 4 in this photo on my machine

I don’t mind sharing at all! Until this shirt I struggled mightily sewing knits too, and found it very frustrating. Things that helped with this one: I got good Gutermann thread; I used a walking presser foot; I lowered the tension slightly to about 3 (from 4)

A me-made t-shirt I just finished in my favorite color. It fits! It’s got a collar! It’s hemmed nicely! And I didn’t have to fight the sewing machine and fabric because I finally nailed the alchemy between walking foot, stretch needles, and tension. 😌

Thank you! I was a bit confused at first because the other shirt I own with angled French cuffs has them cut the other way, with the cut off corner at the top, but these came this way… next time I think I’ll invert them

They’re called French cuffs in English… but maybe it’s like French fries and it doesn’t actually have anything to do with France? 🤪

Interesting! Yes, definitely check out the site, the options for customization are plentiful and everything on it is completely free. This is my third shirt, and I’ve tweaked things slightly each time but the basic fit was right from the start

This is the Simon shirt from @freesewing.org. It’s cool, you put in your measurements and it creates a pattern customized for you. You can choose a lot of details about it, from the amount of ease around various parts to the style of cuffs, plackets, collar, etc. Highly recommended!

I think I got the last of that particular batch, but I purchased the fabric from Stonemountain & Daughter and they ship anywhere. Here’s a slightly more “neon” version of the same fabric, it’s a flannel. stonemountainfabric.com/product/cozy...

Thank you 🙏🏽 I am slightly miffed that I couldn’t match the colors of the lines perfectly on the yoke, but I only had barely enough fabric for all the pieces and there was no way to cut both yokes in a way that lined up with the back piece…

Luigi Anzivino @ilmungo.bsky.social · 13/05/2025
Thanks! I find it kind of easier because it helps line up things neatly and keep seam allowances consistent, it gives me a line to follow!

Very, very proud of this one. I took great care with all constructions and seams, and the results paid off. More ease around the chest fits comfortably but still snug, which I like. And I love the fabric! #sewing #menwhosew #sewist #garmentsewing #sewsky #memademay

Shirt is done! It’s a bit too tight in the chest area and needs a bit more ease around the scye, but overall it’s pretty spot on. I am absurdly pleased and am so happy that thanks to @freesewing.org I can easily adjust the pattern for my next one! #sewing #menwhosew #sewist #garmentsewing #sewsky

Progress! This time the sleeves are correctly mirrored. Sleeves have been attached and the seams flat felled! I had to unstitch and reattach one because it had come out looking like trash the first time, but now I’m proud of this work! #sewing #sewist #garmentsewing #sewsky
