Compared to the four Trek series prior, it's always amazed me how Enterprise's characters were so well-developed from the very first episode. An episode like this of TNG or DS9 wouldn't have hit right until season 3 at least.

Yes, that's is part of an excellent network @ncsco.bsky.social has built! The NWS coop weather station is located on the other end of the same property.

I visited the NC Agricultural Research Station near Whiteville this week to present them with an award for providing 15 years of daily cooperative weather observations to the NWS in Wilmington. Their staff were beginning to harvest peanuts in the surrounding fields.

15 or so years ago I gave often to The Nature Conservancy's "Plant a Billion" campaign focused on the Amazon rainforest. I wonder how many of those replanted trees survive today?

Trump bribed Total Energies and Duke Energy to the tune of a billion dollars to abandon the Cape Fear offshore wind project that would have fed 1.3 gigawatts into the grid. North Carolina definitely has skin in the game on this too.

The article says "Across the US military and the intelligence community, officials are pushing to weave AI into nearly every facet of their work." Let's just say that same push extends outside of the military too. My experience has been mixed to poor even generating simple quarterly reports.

Did you know a Moon impact creates thermal 'cold spots'? Data from NASA's LRO reveals a 4-mile-wide zone around the new McGetchin crater that is 16°F cooler at night. The crash fluffed up the lunar soil, making it less dense and less able to hold heat! 🌡️🌕

4.31" of rain from Sunday's thunderstorms made yesterday the wettest day in my backyard since Hurricane Dorian dumped nearly 8" back on September 5, 2019. Shown here: MRMS average return interval and radar precipitation estimates.

My Fall climate outlook for eastern NC/SC. El Nino has practically shut down the tropics for Atlantic hurricanes this season, but we still need to watch the nearby subtropics. And I'm hopeful November rain will help end this year's persistent Carolinas drought. www.weather.gov/ilm/FallOutl...

Hungary drained its waters for generations. Now drought is exposing the cost
Record-low water levels at Lake Velence have made boating difficult and closed swimming beaches, offering a stark view of Hungary’s worsening water crisis.

Anywhere from 4-6 inches of thunderstorm rain earlier this weekend kicked Wilmington's drought in the teeth, but also washed out at least one road in town www.wwaytv3.com/flooding-was... Plenty of runoff cleaned out all the hot, salty water from Smith Creek as measured by UNCW's gauges wl.cormp.org
MRMS precipitation estimates of 4-6 inches across across a good portion of northern New Hanover County in the Cape Fear region of North Carolina. Gauge measurements confirmed these totals.Water level, water temperature, and salinity measurements from UNC-Wilmington's river gauge on Smith Creek at North Kerr Avenue in Wilmington
