Bright Phoebus by Lal and Mike Waterson. I stumbled across it on Spotify, and was hooked.

You could try brining the chicken before you marinade. That increases the moisture content in the meat.

I watched it semi recently and it was even darker than I remembered.

If you stood on Briggate at 8am on a weekday in 1957, and stood there again in 2026, in which year could you reach more of the city in half an hour? Samuel Bancroft has crunched the numbers. Since the 1950s, Leeds has got bigger - but the city has effectively shrunk.

Have you planted that? I moved into a house with that in the garden, if I were you I would kill it now before it gets any bigger.

I made a web app with claude whilst waiting for the kettle to boil. I find it really useful. I wouldn't expect anyone else to use it. Nor would I have spent the time learning how to code it manually.

It's not a contentious debate. Its fringe groups hijacking the media.

I have a spreadsheet where I rate albums I've listened to. Not many get 'rubbish' but quite a few get 'NMCT' (Not My Cup of Tea).

So much this. The 1916-1990 large continental army is a historical aberration. By trying to do everything, we're not generating enough force anywhere.

I wish that Spotify or similar would let people make radio shows, where they play music and talk in between. Since you've paid to access the music, it would be nice to have people share and curate, but with rambling humanity in the chat, not just playlists. This is the narrowcasting of my dreams.

I went to a dinner with the AI Minister and I read a paper on Lovelace Institue --- a proposal from Tony Blair's Institute on how we could fund breakthrough science better. And I wrote that all up into one incoherent mess for you to enjoy. tomforth.co.uk/nationalpurp...

Lovelace Institutes, why I like the idea, and how I think they could work.

I went to Leeds Carnival yesterday and was struck by the thought that there were many times more people at that event than at all of these protests combined. A huge, happy crowd celebrating our diversity, shame that's not on the front pages.

I once asked for mustard in a French restaurant and he said "No. It will ruin your dinner and walked off". TBF he was right.

At primary school I did a reading test. Afterwards the teacher asked me what some of the words meant, I said I didn't know and the teacher accused me of cheating. She asked me how I could read a word if I didn't know its meaning. Maybe this is why?

Wrote a paper. Read the paper. Seems okay. You can read it too. The pub is now much fuller than my reading on X. niesr.ac.uk/publications...

I made salt cod ravioli one Xmas. So tasty, defo worth the effort. Did have a moment though when I couldn't workout why the dough wasn't rolling properly. Turned out I'd grabbed my mum's mince pie pastry from the fridge.

I wonder if it's a combination of two things. 1. After the end of the cold war they no longer had the big bad to define themselves against. 2. The embrace of torture and extra judicial detention (and killing) during the war on terror.
