This is bureaucratic violence. ICE quietly stopped taking fingerprints from people in detention, so USCIS denied their applications by default. Nobody weighed the merits of a single case. People's applications were thrown out because the agency holding them would not take their fingerprints.

Whoa. @haleaziz.bsky.social has the scoop on a truly insane plan to use some military training ships for deportations, with people presumably shackled or locked in cells for days at a time as they transit to Central and South America. Each journey would be staggeringly expensive — and dangerous.

Barbosa de Cunha immediately goes to the front of the line as the most important case #SCOTUS will decide this term. Trump's entire immigration arrest and detention policy regime *depends* upon its novel reading of the statutes, one that's been rejected by an overwhelming majority of lower courts.

A victory for the government in this case would greenlight long-term mass civil detention at a level not seen since Japanese internment during WWII. It would represent the largest change in how the US treats immigrants facing removal since 1996, and remind us again that the 96 law must be erased.

This will be one of the most important immigration cases in a generation. The Trump admin claims that a 1996 law mandates the detention of millions of people without any right to a bond hearing; every person who entered illegally, no matter how long in the past. If they win, it's a nightmare.

For the briefest, teeny-tiniest moment in Trump v. J.G.G. it looked like this SCOTUS majority would at least recognize that noncitizens have due process rights to notice and an opportunity to challenge summary removals. They have spent every day since then running away from the idea.

BREAKING: SCOTUS allows the Trump admin to restart third-country removals under a policy found by lower courts to violate federal law. The Democratic appointees dissent. The deportations will be OK'ed at least through the next several months, with SCOTUS agreeing to hear the case in December.
CERTIORARI GRANTED
DEPT. OF HOMELAND SEC., ET AL. V. D.V.D., ET AL.
The application for stay presented to Justice Jackson and
by her referred to the Court is granted. The February 25, 2026
order and judgment of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, case No. 1:25-cv-10676, are stayed.
The application is also treated as a petition for a writ of
certiorari, and the petition is granted. The parties are directed to brief and argue the following questions: (1) Whether
the district court had jurisdiction over Respondents' claims.
(2) Whether the district court had authority to enter classwide declaratory relief and APA vacatur under 8 U. S. C. §1252(f) (1).
(3) Whether the Government's Guidance on third-country removals
is unlawful under 8 U.S. C. §1231(b), the Due Process Clause, or FARRA/CAT and its implementing regulations. (4) Such other
questions that the Government determines are appropriate for the
proper disposition of the case. The Clerk is directed to
establish a briefing schedule that will allow the case to be argued in the December 2026 argument session. The stay shall
terminate upon the sending down of the judgment of this Court.
Justice Sotomayor, Justice Kagan, and Justice Jackson would deny the application for stay.

The First Circuit upholds a lower court order requiring ICE to actually TELL people before it sticks them on a plane in shackles to a random country they've never been to before, and allow them to raise very real fears of torture and persecution in those third countries.

Equatorial Guinea: Risk of torture for unlawfully detained men: Ahmed Soliman and Samson Birhane

On 11 September, the Equatorial Guinea authorities unlawfully arrested Ahmed Soliman and Samson Birhane, accusing them of “breaking a mirror” at a hotel in Malabo, where the two had been arbitrarily held since they were unlawfully removed by the US to Equatorial Guinea earlier this year. Police officers covered the two men’s heads with a bag and beat them in their heads, backs and ribs. Amnesty International believes that police officers targeted them in reprisal for reporting the authorities’ violent threats to coerce them to agree to return to their countries of origin. Since then, the two men have been held in an overcrowded police cell, in inhumane conditions, unable to speak to their lawyer. The authorities must immediately release them, inform them of any charges against them and allow them unimpeded access to counsel.

This is APPALLING. The Trump administration is detaining multiple random Somali immigrants with no criminal record at Guantanamo Bay, seemingly because the White House ordered ICE specifically to detain Somalis at Gitmo as part of its effort to punish an ethnic group Trump has attacked.
According to Mohamed, guards at Guantanamo have said they are being held there because that's what officials in Washington, DC, want. Why was there a riot at the infamous Camp East Montana, where three people have died since it opened last year? @palabrasdeabajo.bsky.social reports that migrants jailed for months despite deportation orders were protesting terrible conditions and mistreatment at the nation’s worst ICE camp.
The wife of a Venezuelan immigrant held at the detention center, who requested to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisals against her husband, confirmed the protests to The El Paso Times.
"He told me that the Venezuelans there were protesting because they've been there a long time and they are not being deported," she said, "and that they are crowded together, the food they are given is bad, and they're treated poorly."
She said that many detainees like her husband had been held for up to nine months. He was given a deportation order.

In July, a new ICE agent with a history of domestic violence and mental illness killed a man in Maine who even ICE admits posed no threat to him. Now we know that internal whistleblowers at ICE were sounding the alarm about the agency utterly disregarding normal hiring rules.
In the wake of a hiring surge last summer, an official in charge of evaluating new recruits to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a dire warning.

The Trump administration, he wrote in a memo, was cutting corners, violating the law and fast-tracking unqualified, “improperly vetted” candidates into ICE’s ranks, part of a dangerous move that exposed the agency — and its law enforcement operations — to “grave national security risks.”

Citing an “unprecedented lowering of standards,” the career ICE official said that “systemic breakdowns” had allowed applicants to receive job offers before they had passed basic fingerprint, identity or credit checks in a preliminary vetting process. Political appointees had unjustly skirted background investigations and received national security eligibility.

The situation in Haiti is terrifying. On Sunday, 150 gunmen swept down on a town to kill, rape, loot, and burn. 22 people were executed in a churchyard. 52 were taken hostage. Stephen Miller mockingly says Haiti is safe and ICE just sent its second deportation flight this month; with kids on board.
They arrived in silence, under cover of darkness, heavily armed as they surrounded the town and moved through Kenscoff’s rugged terrain and towering forests in the mountains above the Haitian capital. Numbering around 150, the gunmen swept through several locations as they made their way toward the center of the town, opening fire on resident who tried to flee. At least 13 people were shot and killed as the gunmen ran through downtown, according to an account by the United Nations human rights office. As more than 50 others sought refuge in L’Arche de la Nouvelle Alliance, a Protestant church that had been sheltering people already displaced by the violence, the gunmen pursued them. When they arrive, they forced residents from the church and executed 22 of them in its courtyard. A dozen others were killed behind the sanctuary. The attackers didn’t just stop there. Before withdrawing from downtown, an area encompassing City Hall and a Haiti National Police substation, they abducted at least 52 people, including a mother and her five children, as well as another mother and her infant. Children and elderly who could not run were killed inside their homes. Others were burned alive after gunmen set at least a dozen houses on fire, witnesses told the National Human Rights Defense Network. The attackers also shot horses and other livestock inside the rural enclave.

The answer is that the actions of the FBI, DOJ and other U.S. government agencies related to J6 were so horrific, and the civil rights abuses so great, that the institutions wouldn't survive a complete and honest investigation, so instead the entire topic must be ignored. A just accounting would require the firing of thousands of FBI and DOJ personnel and they simply don't want that to happen.

An incredible story. The Iranian Christian woman who wrote “help” on the glass on the hotel in Panama has finally found permanent safety; in Canada. The Trump admin deported her to Panama soon after taking office, rather than let her seek asylum. Read her story 👇 www.nytimes.com/2026/08/25/w...

ICE repeatedly claims 70% of people it arrests have a prior criminal record. This is false; it hasn't been true since May 2025. During the Minneapolis raids, that number fell to 53%. Now it's fallen below 50%. The MAJORITY of ICE arrests are now people with no criminal record.
The same chart as above, this time showing percentages. The previous peak in non-criminal arrests was last December to January, where 47% and 45% of all arrests were people with no criminal record. That's now surged higher, with 48% in June and 51% in July

NEW: ICE data released under the Freedom of Information Act reveals that more than half of all ICE arrests are now people with no criminal record; no prior convictions or pending charges. In the first week of August, 55% of all ICE arrests were of people with no criminal record.
Chart showing monthly ICE arrests by criminal record, January 2025 through July 2026. The chart shows total ICE arrests rising steadily from January 2025, then peaking and falling from January 2026 to February 2026, stabilizing, then rising again in June and July to record levels. Meanwhile, the composition of ICE arrests becomes more and more weighted towards people with no criminal record, and in July 2026, the majority are people with no criminal record.
