Video game industry investors are generally *very* dumb and/or have no idea how games work. This spring there was a presentation about really bad AI generated walking sims and most gaming stocks fell down because investors thought that game dev companies aren't needed anymore.

it made it more convenient to put people into promotional scenes that otherwise needed some photoshopping/3d models, which was always a hassle. Also good for fixing/creating tileable patterns from faulty sources. AI does have it's useful moments at graphic jobs, but it's less mighty than presented

pretty much. Indie games today are what gaming was in the 80ies/90ies, and it's great because you have way more choices nowadays. Even if you got very specific taste, there's a couple of indie games out there that deliver

I'd say just talk about games/game dev things and ask others about what projects they're working on and what games they like. Afaik about game development, everyone's shy and awkward until they get to talk about games or gamdev stuff they like :)
