A scrrenshot from a recent article on how emissions in construction can *actually* be abated using today's available technologies. No AI involved. Also no magical bio-based solutions. Just doing what we know how to do to a larger extent.
Abatement options in the built environment. Timber substitution has negligible impact. Better design, better concrete mixes and the deployment of calcined clays represent the bulk of what's possible. Steel emissions are massively reduced by deploying EAFs.

HAHAHA. I read earlier that somehow the restrictions on selling the latest iteration of the stochastic parrots (Tooo Daaangerous) were lifted. I had thought to myself "uh, they agreed on the bribe". Lo and behold.

There is a frontier in how much CO2 needs to get emitted to earn a dollar, and it keeps getting lower. And it doesn't matter whether you are rich or poor, that frontier is the same. This post is about degrowth being a wrong-headed idea that is utterly unhelpful.
A graph of the CO2 intensity of GDP for the world, as welle as income groups of countries. The graph peaked around 1930 at 1.2 kg/$ and has been going down since then it's 0.2 kg CO2/$ today. as countries grow, they join the rich country curve, and then go down along it.

Maybe the BS Noh political theatre is oversold. Or maybe the question is why not implement a very good, popular measure?
A chart showing support for free movement with Europe by party sympathy. reform is 35, conservatives 52, Labour, Green and LD all more than 80. on average close to 65% of Britons in favour.

People arguing you need to emit to grow are wrong. They've been wrong since the 1920s. All poor countries will grow, and they will never emit as much as the rich countries did. Because the technology to get so little return out of so much CO2 doesn't exist anymore.
graph sowing the carbon intensity of GDP for income group of countries. the peak was in 1920, and has been declining since. all groups are limited by the (declining) frontier

I failed my saving roll... it's a small book, which makes it more poignant. This is perhaps the first science fiction book published in Europe. it was published after the death of its author Cyrano de Bergerac, by his best friend Le Bret in his memory and […] [Original post on mastodon.online]

The EU unemployment is the lowest ever. 5.9%. The days of arbitrage versus cheap Chinese labour are gone. I guess this is a strong motivator for promising AI will stop people for asking salaries...

Statements by the utterly deranged... But yes, I agree with the conclusions: increasing the price of CO2 decreases emissions, with no cost impact on growth. www.sciencedirect.com/science/artic…
