This is an obnoxious reply to a very good and detailed explanation of the science.

Have you talked to Josh about "genocide"? I'm curious as to his current view. I don't think he's talked about it for a while.

So how do you get new subscribers? Through Bluesky followers? Word of mouth? Do they surge after a big scoop? Or when you go on Chris Hayes?

If micro transactions wouldn't work, what about something like bundling? Work with some similar pubs, bundle together subscriptions at an overall discount? Maybe both pubs would benefit by expanding their reader base... Could start with free trials for the other pub for subscribers of the first?

I read the piece, and I largely agree. But why not sanction the whole country, at least until the government policy on settlements changes?

Can't Democrats just kill this if they get the WH in '28?

So dumb. Prediction markets for political races are mostly driven by polls.

Do y'all do mail bag segments? Like, we email or skeet you political questions, like "how are longtime 'mainstream' Dems in office and in staffs/fundraising reacting to the sea change in Democratic voter views on Israel and Palestine"?

It was a conspiracy! Cloverleaf industries bought the Red Car to dismantle it, to make way for their newfangled "freeways".

Another race for every Democrat to insist that the result just confirms their priors (i.e. AIPAC shenanigans, anti-zionism = antisemitism, evil mainstream media, moderates are the devil, progressives are the devil, DSA is the devil, manipulative polling, etc.).

Do these chapters really matter? AOC is building her own brand (which I think will likely lead to the WH at some point, just based on my own assessment of her communications talent). Who really cares about these chapters aside from their own officers?

There's lots of anti-semites out there, but also lots of ignorant but well-meaning people who don't understand antisemitism and need to be educated. The Dems are likely moving towards anti-zionism as a party plank, and antisemitism education will be desperately needed for the party.

If they said he's "Israel first" only because he's Jewish, it's obviously anti-semitic. Presumably someone will ask her why she's calling him that. I'm holding out a slim hope it's because of a legitimate reason (like maybe something he said on record that they dug up).

The salmon hats remind me of the Pez dispenser from Seinfeld. Maybe one day a class clown orca put a salmon on their head, and all their buddies laughed, and it became an orca meme?

Isn't it also your role to say this kind of hyperbole is ubiquitous in politics?

@joshtpm.bsky.social I love you and I love TPM, but your being awfully pedantic about, at worst, some minor league political hyperbole on AOC and the NDAA. Let our skilled communicators use rhetoric, figures of speech, and similar, to best accomplish the mission of defeating fascism.

"Shared products" sounds reasonable close to "merged" to me. Certainly enough for poli-speak. At worst, hyperbole, which is a useful tool in a politician's toolbox.

It absolutely does -- R&D, manufacturing, and other vital logistics functions are absolutely part of our military. I say this as a veteran and current US government civilian logistics professional.

The genocide debate appears to be semantics (and also timing... when did genocide of native Americans start? Columbus? Plymouth Rock? Trail of Tears? Etc.). Also it seems to me that dismissal of "genocide" is just as political, & used for the same purposes, as you're saying "genocide" is.

Obviously not. But the Trump admin claims to oppose antisemitism as well. The claim isn't enough by itself. For the record, it's clear to me that a-s has been rising (or has become more visible) since Oct 7th. So have false claims and manipulation about antisemitism, generally from Trumpy sources.

I agree with you that Democrats should run on more progressive policies (as part of the strategy). What Josh is saying is that they also need to, like Mamdani, AOC, and many others, also emphasize the fight against MAGA fascism. And he's saying moderate Dems should do this as well.

iiandyiiii.bsky.social @iiandyiiii.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Mamdani was clearly a fighter (rhetorically speaking), and made fighting the fascist assault on the rights of immigrants, LGBTQ, POC, women, voters, etc., just as much a part of his campaign as fighting corporate and wealthy interests and fighting for progressive economic policies.

It's not just attacking Trump (and Democrats have not been losing, according to the data - they've been winning almost every swing election since mid 2025). It's meeting the moment, recognizing the unprecedented attack on the Constitution and our democracy and our rights. Just like Mamdani has done.

This is not at all Josh's point. He's saying that what's driving the success of winning Dems nationwide is recognition of the danger of MAGA fascism, & willingness to fight hard (rhetorically & otherwise) against it, & right now only DSA/left Dems are doing this. All Dems should be, Josh is saying.

If you want advice, maybe read when you wake up in the middle of the night, see if that soothes you back to sleep? Often works for me. And when it doesn't work, at least I was being nice to myself instead of beating myself up.

Red State Democrats automatically have this perverse incentive to gaslight and deceptively insult the left because the media loves it. It's perverse because it helps the right and Republicans. Not sure what can be done about it - it's a winning strategy for individual politicians.

I think it was earlier than that. And Biden was in a tough position, politically & morally. But Dems were long overdue in distancing from Israeli far-right-apartheid gov't... it was more than clear even before 10/7 that Netanyahu was an existential enemy of peace and human rights for Palestinians.

Somewhere in between "suck it up" and "continue to provide offensive weapons to support civilian massacres" may lie a wiser political calculation (as well as a more moral political position).

Sure. When others without a history of white supremacism do it, it's probably not out of bigotry. But when white supremacists do it? Bigotry. We shouldn't excuse bigots just because they're criticizing Israel. Israel deserves criticism; white supremacists don't deserve any benefit of the doubt.

They're separate entities... but when known anti-semitic bigots gripe about Israel, they're doing it for anti-semitic reasons, not based on legitimate criticism. No reason to defend bigots like Kent, on this or anything.
