More than 117 million people are forcibly displaced. Non-refoulement is customary international law: no one may be returned to torture, persecution or serious harm. Externalization without safeguards breaches this duty. Asylum is a right, not a concession. #NonRefoulement

Article 6 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law." No one can be treated as a legal non-person: wherever you are and whatever your status, you can own property, sign contracts and go to court to defend your rights. #HumanRights

Freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly is under systematic assault, including in long-standing democracies. Arbitrary detention, surveillance and reprisals against defenders and journalists erode dignity. Civic space is a public good. #FreedomOfExpression

Article 5 #UDHR: "No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment." The ban is absolute: no war or emergency can justify it. It covers police abuse and inhumane prisons, and evidence obtained by torture is never valid. #HumanRights

Accountability is the foundation of the rule of law, not a political option. War crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide require independent investigation and prosecution. Attacks on the ICC and UN mandates shield perpetrators and betray victims. #Accountability #InternationalJustice

Article 4 #UDHR: "No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms." It covers forced labour, trafficking and debt bondage: States must free victims and prosecute exploiters, never punish the trapped. #HumanRights

We condemn the widespread police brutality and the lack of police neutrality and independence in recent events in France and Spain. Peaceful protest is a human right. Tear gas, batons and rubber bullets against people exercising it are not public order. They are repression.

Civilian protection in armed conflict is a non-negotiable human rights duty. International humanitarian law bans indiscriminate attacks, starvation as a method of warfare and collective punishment. States must uphold the Geneva Conventions and end impunity. #IHRF #ProtectCivilians
