Lace & Steel by @pauli-kidd.bsky.social. Running it taught me so much about how to run games, but also about how to _use_ games. It fundamentally altered the way I run games, and I still basically run games the same way now (albeit with a lot of lessons learned).

Pathfinder Cypher System Nights Black Agents: Solo Ops Alien Which does seem a fairly accurate representation of my gaming habits, to be fair.

This is amazing news!

I would say it's a slight upgrade, but it's honestly not that different. All my old Alien adventures will work with no conversion needed, as far as I can tell.

Thought I should get involved as I don't want to get beaten up by ninjas...

What a coincidence, I'm also running a game of The Magnus Archives RPG at UKGE! I imagine mine will be rather less well attended though 😂

I guess you never know what's going on in someone's life. I once had someone put loads of effort into helping me set up an online Pathfinder campaign, only to block me and the other players the night I was going to run session 0. I never found out why, I just hope he's OK.

Perfect, thank you!

Is there an easy way to see the projects I'm supposedly following on @backerkit.com? On Kickstarter I can just look on my profile, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for BackerKit.

Outside of Bluesky I mostly use Reddit, and also Facebook for "in person" stuff (local gaming groups, conventions and sales or trades). I'm on Discord for a few content creators that I'm particularly loyal to, but I HATE Discord and will avoid using it if there's any other alternative.

I have literally just been on Google trying to find something like this!

We use a combination in one of my games; when we can, we do an in-person (well, online) session. In between we do text-based sessions, to set up the next in-person game.

Either D&D or Marvel Super Heroes, I can't remember now which one was first.

I assume it's rated by the total weight of printed products.

I mean, following this absolute shambles they probably aren't going to make any money from recommending games. So I guess there's that...

Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 16/12/2025
There are lots of very valid criticisms of this, well, whatever-it-is so far but to add to the list: D&D scores well on purchase price because players can share the books. Which is true of all games, rendering the category entirely pointless.

It's ironic that it gives the Marvel Universe RPG high marks for being unique while at the same time confusing it with the Marvel Multiverse RPG, one of the four other Marvel RPGs that we've had 🤣

I'm in a very similar position. I only buy new TTRPG books if: - I get rid of an old one first; - It's directly relevant to a game I am currently running; - I really want it; - I don't really want it now, but think I might do in the future; - It just looks cool, y'know?

Thinking about it, I ran the Magnus Archives RPG at the UK Games Expo this year as part of Roll Brittania's Zero-to-GM initiative, which now feels very prescient of me 🤣

I'm a huge fan of Roll Brittania and Rusty Quill, so this made me very happy 😍 Now to really make my year I need @montecookgames.com to make a Cypher System adaptation of Roll Brittania like they have done with all my other favourite shows 🤣

All my favourite shows are now on Rusty Quill. I'm starting to doubt that there even _is_ anywhere else.

I've gone all-in on this and, to be honest, I don't even really like the proposed chages to the way wounds work. I think it might be time to accept that I have an MCG addiction... www.backerkit.com/c/projects/m...

I'm very new to convention GMing, so it'd be a no from me. I already worry enough about getting the timing right without having to fold in a latecomer!

The first sci-fi game I ever ran used GURPS, back in the late 80s/early 90s. I haven't played it in absolutely ages, but I will sometimes use some of the sourcebooks for background reading, they were excellent.

I have one friend like this. A lot of his enjoyment comes from knowing the system really well and being able to play with the intricacies of the rules, and he does really enjoy it. As a result, he doesn't have any interest in playing other TTRPGs.

Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 03/09/2025
This is honestly the most accurate thing I've ever seen.

I've got a friend who's a LOTR fan and has just got into TTRPGs and my first thought was "ooh maybe I finally get to play The One Ring?" 🤣
000
Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 03/09/2025
I actually wouldn't even need to actually play it, if I enjoyed reading it enough. Which is disturbing now that I see it written down 🤣

I don't think I ever realised that Virgin carried RPGs! Mind you, our local modelling and hobby shop had a really good selection so maybe it just never occurred to me to look.

Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 03/09/2025
To be fair I almost forgot too. I was looking around my room for inspiration and the three shelves of 40k RPGs reminded me 🤣

Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 03/09/2025
That's a difficult question! In no particular order, I think: - Warhammer 40K. - Shadowrun 1-3E. - Iron Kingdoms (pre-Requiem). - Ptolus. - Nights Black Agents/Conspiracy X/Delta Green (I find it hard to choose which one, I just love that "modern world but with supernatural conspiracies" vibe).

I think it's a useful tool and, like all useful tools, it doesn't always apply. One of the skills it's useful for GMs to learn is when it does and when it doesn't.

The best dice set I have uses a different colour for each polyhedron. Makes it really easy to tell them apart at a glance, and it's great for teaching new players!

Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
I also meant to say, it's also well-supported with both expansions and adventures!

Dan @ihilate.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
It has a fun, playing card-based core system. It's rules for combat are clever, with the players _choosing_ where they go in initiative. I particularly like the fact that the rules for social maneuvering are well-developed, and make politicking a lot of fun.

As the first like was from @tabcreations.com I think it only right that my first game is their excellent Age of Ambition. It's a fantasy game, but set a little later than most; think Warhammer, but hopeful rather than grimdark.

You're a cow. But not just any cow. You're bright, eloquent, and, frankly, wasted in this field. Your goal is to escape, infiltrate society, and ultimately get elected ruler of the country. Problem is...

My favourite is the standard version but with fancy bits. My _least_ favourite is the cloth cover. In general, unless the cover art is spectacularly bad, if I get the choice I'll choose the "standard" edition instead.

I've only just stumbled across QuestPortal but it looks really good. Also it seems well supported by Chaosium, at least, and I don't have any of their stuff on any other VTT yet. Call of Cthulhu might be a good entry point for me...
