This is a weird interpretation. The argument isn’t “I may as well be a drug user then”, it’s “I don’t need to do the dangerous thing to know it’s dangerous.” Heroin may be a cliche reference, but still, this feels like willfully misrepresenting the intended point.

There’s also the white colonial element, the whole wellness thing often taking the form of over priced “natural remedies” taken from folk medicine, combined with cultural foods and practices being commodified. No culture is safe from being repackaged as rich white people novelties.

Calling it AI is anthropomorphizing it, so AP is already failing their own advice. It isn't intelligent, it isn't intelligence, it's a metastasized algorithm.

So instead we have to hope that not only will you win, but enough actual trans supporters win to counterbalance the likes of you. And then to hope that, in six years, we Texans remember what you did, and take the opportunity to choose someone else, maybe even someone worthy, someone better than you.

Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
But you could always try to make it right. Restore your support, acknowledge that you were wrong, seek redemption. It will ring hollow no matter what, especially if after the election, but you could try. It would be the right thing to do, if that interests you. But of course you won't do that.

Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I genuinely hope that you win. With far less enthusiasm, still I hope. But now a good deal of my hope is for the trans people who will be driven yet further into the void if you lose. They would be blamed, they would be hated, while you slink back to your life unbothered, one more forgotten coward.

So here we are. A community once again torn in half, one side demanding unity no matter what in the face of existential threats, the other side railing at the injustice of being the sacrificial lamb no matter what happens. But most of both sides will vote for you anyway, so why should you care.

Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
The run up to every election for the last 10 years has felt like this. Panic, fear, pain, fury. Say nothing critical, wait until they have power, anything else is too dangerous. Scream at anyone who might hold back the blue wave we all need to survive, even if it means they drown for the rest of us.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Your betrayal becomes theirs if they give voice to it. They become the problem because every choice is for someone who will not support them. To criticize is to let the side down, to refuse to support and vote is tantamount to treason. Once again stripped of their power, their voice, their peace.

Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
But arguably what's worse is what happens to the people you've now abandoned. Trans people are faced with the same calculus they nearly always are: vote for someone who denies your humanity to help everyone else, and hope that they can be persuaded, or don't, and be the enemy within everyone blames.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
If any of that seems harsh, why? If you'll say whatever you think will show that you are "reasonable", that you understand that being trans is nothing more than a "genetic mutation", even after you've said supportive and knowledgeable things in the past, why should we assume we know your line?
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Or maybe that's a little too far, given how like a Republican that would make you, and the Hispanic vote in Texas is much larger than the trans vote. So you also can't give up abortion too much, you absolutely need women to vote for you. But I'm not a political consultant, I guess I wouldn't know.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
However unintentionally, you've effectively blackmailed us to give you power. So since you've done that, who else will you throw under the bus? Will you give Republicans grace that maybe some of those brown people in our concentration camps deserve to be there? Republicans voted for that, after all.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Either way, having said what you said, your voters now can't trust you. And yet we are still your voters. Most of us will choose you over the guy who sent law enforcement after families with trans kids, because you have to be better than that. So we rage at what you say, then vote for you anyway.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Maybe you're trying to play the game, offer the hollow concession to try and win some shaken Trump voters over to your side and then go back on it. Or maybe you always intended to retreat from your support for the trans community, you just needed the nomination before it was truly safe to do.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
That gives you the kind of profound leverage no politician should have. Safe in the knowledge that as long as you are the better option, you are free to compromise, backtrack, dilute anything you've said before, and you will still get our vote, because you're the only option we have.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I can't vote for the Republican, that all but guarantees the deaths of innocent people. I can't not vote, ceding any power I have is just making it more likely the worst happens, and voting 3rd party, in this country, is essentially the same. So it's you, or someone like you, no matter what.
100
Jonathan @ignoranceburns.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Voting for people like you is common to being a Democrat. It's never perfect, more often than not it feels more like compromise than support, but you do it anyway, because in the binary choice we have, Democrats are always the better option. Which is to say, voting Democrat feels like extortion.

@jamestalarico.bsky.social Hi James. I'm a Texan Democrat. The rainbow flag applies to me, and many of my loved ones, some of whom fly the pink, blue, and white one. You'll never see this, I assume. I have no following or any real presence here, on a site few care about, but I want to say it anyway.

I’m a Texan trans kid who almost died because of Ken Paxton. The world should know what he’s done. This was very difficult for me to write, but given what's at stake, I cannot bear to stay silent about what I went through at Paxton's hands. He must not be rewarded for what he's done to trans kids.

One of my least favorite things about all of this is that we just accepted the term "AI" (not criticizing you). We've always used humanizing language for computers, but we let this metastasized algorithm turn a specific concept into hollow marketing. First and foremost, it's not "intelligent".

Phantasy Star Online. My sister bought the GameCube game and forgot about it. I tried playing it off and on for like fifteen years but I hated it. Didn’t even know it was a collectible until I sold it to a used game store and they set up a console to test that it ran ok before paying $20 for it.

More than half of all Americans live at or near the poverty line, and every attempt to change that has failed. The most common reason for bankruptcy for the last forty or so years is medical debt, even though during that same time we‘ve helped finance other countries who have universal healthcare.
