Meanwhile, at SFU Woodwards, students are preparing for the arrival of new neighbours
NO GUNS ON CAMPUS!
NO GUNS ON CAMPUS: SFU Policy Amendment Petition
GUNS ON CAMPUS? SINCE WHEN:
No guns on campus might sound like a given, but since the rental of the Woodwards campus to the VPD, there have been heavily armed cops on campus. Not only are they there, but they present an intimidating presence to students, staff, and the visiting public.
WHO ARE WE?
We are students who use the campus everyday. We are affected by the presence of loaded firearms. We are psychologically and physically threat- ened by the threat of gun violence in our direct proximity by rental groups who carry loaded firearms on campus.
OUR ASK:
We demand that university policy be amended to forbid the carry and use of loaded firearms on campus by any rental group. If any rental group believes they need firearms to be present at their event on campus, then the implication is that the event is prone to gun-violence. This policy does not call out any specific groups, and is only focused on student and community safety
HOW TO CHANGE SFU POLICY:
We will submit a Substantive Amendment to General Policy 36. Use of University Space. Currently, there is no policy in regards to rental groups carrying firearms. We request that this be amended firmly to forbid the carry and use of loaded firearms on campus by any rental group.NO GUNS ON CAMPUS!
ACTION PLAN:
Spread the word! NO GUNS ON CAMPUS! On Any campus! On all Campuses,
1. Gather support for our amendment request. 2. Outreach to community organizations who regularly rent Woodwards to build a coalition of concerned stakeholders whose publics do not want any armed presence at their events, adding them as signees in support of our policy amendment request. (This has already happened this summer at a DOXA screening in Woodwards.) 3. Speak to media to put the pressure on the university administration. 4. Following our collection of signatures, we will deliver our request to Laurie Anderson, Executive Director of SFU Vancouver; Galib Bhayani, SFU's Chief Safety and Risk Officer; Shannon de Groot, Head of Meet- ing, Conference, and Event Services (MEGS);Carman Neustaedter, Dean of FCAT; and policy sponsor, Jon Harding

This was an afternoon movie one day when my sister and I were both at home sick. It freaked me out but I was also quietly rooting for her. She ages super fast when she can't get her only-available-from-dying-men youth serum. Sad.
Theatrical poster for The Leech Woman (1960). Other text besidesz the title: "She DRAINED MEN of their loves and lives" and "in the savage heart of the jungle she found the forbidden secret of eternal youth!"

Robert De Niro is the 1982 film The King of Comedy. Having extorted his way on to major late night talk show, his character stands triumphantly in front of the stage curtain, his arms extended to the sides. He has dark hair and a well-trimmed moustache, is wearing a white shirt, a bowtie, and a suit jacket with an incredibly loud pattern.

The Green Pastures, USA, 1936, possibly the first major studio movie with an all-Black cast. The movie is somewhat whitened because they had Dick Powell, who is not in it, appear in the trailer, apparently to show white audiences that it would be safe to watch. CW: stereotypes, bible stories.
Advertising card for the movie Green Pastures (1936) showing three images: poor rural Black people near a mountain; a Black man and child looking toward the sky; and a Black God looking down at the earth and smiling.
