Deal in to a 24k point hand early on, still way behind going into all last. I'm already trying to calm myself, saying sometimes its just random bad luck with the tiles, I'll do better next game. Then I pull out an upset victory and I'm celebrating like I won the Super Bowl. Mahjong be like that.

My list of yakuman to achieve is now one shorter. You can see me trying to decide if I just win or go for the 13 wait. I wanted to avoid furiten and I was lucky I could just call kita to avoid it entirely. Thank you, mahjong gods.

I was surprised seeing my 8th Dan sanma rank up was only 2 months ago. Had a losing streak in between so if felt like I did the climb twice. From here on 3rd place takes away more rank than a 1st place gains, so I'm gonna have to play my best defense if I hope to go further.

It's frustrating taking a hit early in a match. Makes you want to quit, especially in East only games where you aren't going to have time to make a comeback. Unless you're the last dealer and play like a god.

Sega MJ is a pretty cool mahjong client. Bummed the english ver is gone (and the en voices in the JP client too?). I like the weird bingo cards, giving you something to shoot for in a match even if you're losing.

Hid the names to protect the innocent, but thought this might be a good mahjong teaching moment. Sure the 3s looked dangerous so can see not throwing it, but of you aren't tenpai anyway and can just follow cut for the last discard of the match then its probably a good idea to do so.

It is the final discard of the match and the player to my right has just drawn a 3s. This appears dangerous because none of the others have come out yet...because they are all in my hand. Their hand is not tenpai and I have just discarded a 6p, which they also have in their hand. That would have been the absolute safest tile for them to drop.

My experience with the Riichi City Santa hat event is summed up thusly: 99% chance I am the Santa, so I won't get the fun prize bag. If I'm not the Santa, the player that is Santa draws like a god and wins every match.
