Yesterday in Parliament, Luke Akehurst MP highlighted the need for targeting policy at ‘mission critical’ neighbourhoods. He warned that “if investment isn’t made in these neighbourhoods, we will never achieve national targets”.

ICON’s Interim Report sets out the 613 mission critical neighbourhoods most at risk of not meeting the government’s 5 missions for national renewal. Without targeted interventions to these areas the government will fail to meet its promise of a decade of renewal.

To inform our interim report, Think Neighbourhoods, Public First examined public attitudes towards neighbourhoods. We found a palpable sense of visible decline across the country, which was most acute in those neighbourhoods furthest from the government’s five missions.

At the launch of a new report from @iconeighbours.bsky.social Angie Wright of B-Inspired in Braunstone, Leicester, underscores this point. B-Inspired came out of the NDC but since then, has brought in significant additional investment and raised ~£25m through trading and the assets it owns.
