A federal judge in Texas has denied Minnesota's request to force Gov. Greg Abbott to extradite ICE agent Christian Castro, who is charged in the Jan. 14 shooting of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in north Minneapolis. The order means Castro is set to be released from jail this week.

Abbott has no plausible legal basis for opposing Minnesota's demand. The bigger issue is the timing—"the distinct possibility that Abbott ... is not trying to win, but rather is trying to run out the clock, which may expire as soon as next Wednesday."
