The Jets go into Pittsburgh and defeat the Penguins 3-2 to win both games of this road trip (back-to-back games). They improve to 2-0-1 on the season as Clay Stevenson wins his first as a Winnipeg goalie. Join the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show to discuss: www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5wn...

4 goals in 4:19 (3 for Jets, 1 for Pens)

What the hell is happening in Pittsburgh? This was a goalie duel for most of this contest and now it’s 3-2 for Winnipeg. Cole Perfetti fires home the Josh Morrissey pass 9 seconds after the Pens had tied it.

Jets getting a 5 on 5 goal…in this economy (again). Alexa Iafallo with a great move and the captain Adam Lowry finishing it off. Winnipeg now leads 2-1.

Looks like this line is now Rosén with Lowry and Iafallo. Barron with Björck and Vilardi. Lambert with Namestnikov and Koepke. Top line remains unchanged for the Jets in the 3rd. #NHLJets

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 21h

Maybe the question should be why was Ben Kindel left alone in front to deflect that puck? Penguins take a 1-0 lead over the Jets approaching midpoint of the middle frame. #NHLJets

Don’t know how many folks were thinking this Jets and Pens game would be a goalie duel but both Stevenson and Murashov have been very good. #NHLJets

1160

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 21h

Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele both with chances early in the 2nd. Pens goalie Sergei Murashov also keeps making all the stops.

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 22h

That was a fun opening period in Pittsburgh as the Jets and Penguins are tied 0-0 after 20. Home team got off to a fast start with an 8-2 shot edge but visitors finished strong with a 10-3 run. Lots to like from Period 1. #NHLJets

Vlad Namestnikov with a glorious chance

080

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 22h

Hearing the name Carlile on the Jets/Pens broadcast in a Pittsburgh jersey brought back memories of the early ’80s, when it would have been this guy ⬇️ Of course, different spelling, but his nine seasons in Winnipeg are the real reason the name brings back memories.

050

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 22h

Nice takeaway by Isak Rosén who feeds it over to Gabriel Vilardi for a good chance.

The Moose sweep the Wolves in the season opening series with today’s 8-3 victory this afternoon in Winnipeg. Manitoba starts off 2-0-0 with 11 goals for and 3 against. And the kids showed they were more than alright. Post-game recap to come on illegalcurve.com

Not sure I can keep up at this pace. Jets prospect Brayden Yager has his second of the game to make it 8-3 for the Moose. 🤯 Great shot by the centre to give him three points in the game.

First pro goal alert as Davis Burnside makes it 7-3 for the Moose over the Wolves. Tell Ohio State Men’s hockey that their former captain has his first as a pro. Nice work by him to create the turnover.

Noah Gregor, who looked dangerous in Game 1 for the Moose, continues to be in Game 2. He makes it 6-3 for Manitoba as he gets his third point of the afternoon. Nice pass by Danny Zhilkin to him in front of the net. Looks like goal scoring might not be an issue for this club.

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

That OHL Line is heating up…. Kevin He gets his second goal and first against a netminder off a great pass by Colby Barlow. Another smart play by Barlow in neutral zone and a great feed. Moose lead up to 5-3 (and about to increase).

It ain’t just the Jets who have a red-hot power play. Brayden Yager gives the Moose a 3-0 lead as the Winnipeg prospect fires home the loose puck for his first of the season. They went 2/4 yesterday and are 1/1 this afternoon.

050

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Jets prospect Alfons Freij has his first goal in the AHL. Nice little rush by the 2024 2nd round pick of Winnipeg as he feeds Brayden Yager and then chips home the rebound. He did say he golfed a lot this summer back home in Sweden. Moose have a 2-0 lead.

062

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Lucas Wahlin gets his first of the season as he opens the scoring early in this one to give the Moose a 1-0 lead. He’s takes advantage of the Keystone Cops collision that took out two Wolves.

030

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

With this goal Kyle Connor moved past Thomas Steen into sole possession of 5th on the All-Time power play goals list. He’s up to 75 for his career. Dale Hawerchuk in 1st with 122.

Moose look for sweep of the Wolves in Winnipeg. Same lineup (except G): Chibrikov – Yager – Wahlin Gregor – Zhilkin – Ford He – Julien – Barlow Empey – Yoder – Burnside Phillips – Freij Sautner – Mayo Gustafsson – Thrun Milic Post-game to follow on illegalcurve.com

Ironically they are really good friends and usually train together in the summer. Both are Albertans. Both played in the WHL for Seattle. And back in 2020 they were drafted in the 6th round one spot apart (Bauer 164, Rempe 165).

Dave Minuk @icdave.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

That’s a crazy stat that Dan Robertson just dropped on the broadcast: Kyle Connor scored five power-play goals all of last season. He already has three in under two games. Of course, 81 also had that weird run of 46 games to close 2024-25 without a PPG.
