Maybe, just maybe he was saying "higher gas prices is a small price to pay compared to Iran nuking LA." But Democrats get skewered on the regular for far, far milder verbal faux pas, so screw it. Any time there is any room for interpretation I will presume the worst possible meaning from the GOP.

I get the worry that no matter how well Dems do, the media will paint it as a disappointment, and as a counterweight to that worry I suggest we all have some self respect and fight like hell and celebrate the wins where they come rather than letting someone else tell us what we’re allowed to do.

I really really REALLY need people to understand that even if Dems take the Senate as well as the House next Month, they will still be constrained by Trump being President. Dems will be able to investigate, pass bills in the House, and hold floor votes in the Senate, but Trump veto everything.

Thumbs can be put on scales - partisan gerrymandering, purging voter rolls of "inactive" registrants, or closing polling places in densely populated areas and impact turnout, for instance, but that usually only matters at the margins. Wave elections can overcome that.

The good thing about the U.S. system is that our institutions are usually resilient enough to weather the occasional bout of proto-dictatorship. As much as ppl like to say the sky is falling, it's actually very hard for anyone to, for example, rig an election in the US.

A lot straight up want the rascism/authoritarianism. Many just want someone to "fix" everything, i.e. "make it feel like it did when i was younger and had fewer worries". So they vote for the one who promises to do that. It's not a promise that can be kept, so often ppl swing back again.

1 problem w issue polling is that respondents are not honest about what motivates them. Hesitant to openly admit sexist/racist attitudes to a pollster. But when it comes time to vote for medicare for all? + if the candidate is a woman? That's when the stuff they don't tell pollsters comes into play.
